PS3 Owners: Have you purchased a Blu-Ray movie since you purchased your PS3?

So far I've got
Kung Fu Hustle
Black Hawk Down
Underworld: Evolution
Speed
Ice Age 2: The Meltdown
Crank
Terminator
X-Men 3: Last Stand
and today I'm picking up Open Season

Of those I'd say Crank has by far the best picture, but I haven't watched Black Hawk Down yet. I hear Open Season is NUTS though...

I've got plenty of other HD content and I didn't say that I wasn't going to buy shit on blu-ray, I'm just going to be VERY selective about it. Dropping $30 on the likes of some of the movies out right now is just flat out retarded.

Again, I'm not talking about myself, I'm talking about your average consumer. There's only a small percentage of people in America right now who even have an HDTV, and look at how long it took us to finally drop VHS and adopt DVD.

America isn't exactly the quickest company to run out and adopt new tech. The average asshole on the street doesn't give a fuck about 1080p and 7.1 audio. The vast majority of them are tooling around on a 27" magnavox SDTV and listening through the speakers built into the TV.

By the time the majority of consumers in America finally have an HDTV, there most likely will be another format lurking around the corner that offers more than blu-ray and hd-dvd. And even if one of them manages to stick it out for the long term, it's going to be a LOOOONG time before we see the blu-ray/HD-DVD shelves outnumber the DVD shelves in stores.

yeah the picture quality on Corpse Bride is amazing but too bad the movie is shit

February should be a good month with The Departed and The Prestige coming out

but none the less they will eventually outnumber the dvds on the shelfs. Even back then when dvds first came out i still opted to pay the 5-10 bucks more for the disc so that now in present dayi 'm not stuck with a vhs. That's why i opt for the blu-rays over the dvds because eventually dvds will be like VHS. See what i'm saying?

The Last Samurai and Kingdom of Heaven, I have 10 movies on HD-DVD, 3 are MI movies (not because I prefer them, I just had the Xbox HD player before the PS3).

Am I the only one who actually likes Kingdom of Heaven as a movie? How is the story hard to follow?

Looking forward to those two.

I have had the opposite experience

Granted not every title is, and Im sure we will see gradual improvements as time goes on providing studios put enough effort into a clean transfer. I was very happy with the quality of my upconverting DVD player at the time, but I went out and purchased a couple BD titles that already owned on DVD, fired up both machines and A/B. Just like switching from watching a prime time TV show on the SD channel then switching to the HD channel.

Also Tank, I'd agree with your statements about people being slow to adopt to new tech. I think it took DVD 5+ years to finally overtake VHS sales. Plus the ammount of money it takes to get the full HD experience of any of the new formats puts it beyond the reach of lots of people
