PS3 Owners: Have you purchased a Blu-Ray movie since you purchased your PS3?

You can already get blu-ray burners and recordable blu-ray discs. The burners cost around $600+ and a blank disc costs around $20.
 
That's the point I was more trying to make. I'm not saying that I don't like having the options available for HD discs, I'm just very discerning with my purchases. Pirates of the Carribean, I'd buy that in Hi-Def, a movie like Click, probably not. Especially with the format war, I'm just very cautious to be a big time early adopter. I"ll be a fair weather adopter if you will

HD content discs just have a LOT of hurdles in front of them before they can be a real commercial success and the new industry standard. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities that another bigger, faster format could come along and kick these two to the curb in the process.
 
i can see tanks point, but as for the difference between a blu ray version of black hawk down and the newest version on dvd which is remastered for high def playing on my upconverting dvd player through hdmi, theres a huge difference still. now im not saying every movie will look better than dvd counterpart by alot, but i ran both at the same time at same parts and just kept switching input on tv, and the difference is night and day for that movie. i dont really buy any movies other than ones that would look awesome in HD, like above mentions blackhawk down. rest of mine were bought cause they were 14 bucks for me once i mail in 10 dollar off rebates, so price wasnt the issue either, so thats my reasoning to getting them.
 
it came with ps3, it had 3 titles from each movie company and 10 dollars off one of the 3 movies shown, most were decent movies so picked up some of them
 
I got superman for christmas. Lets just say I'm in no rush to go out and buy any more. Regular old DVDs are just fine and this goes to further my theory that this is going to be like DVD-A vs. SACD war...translation

It's not worth the extra $5-10 over a regular DVD. The difference isn't that great, it's nowhere near what going from VHS to DVD was.
 
Nope, got a 46" DLP HDTV. I didn't say there wasn't a difference, I just said that it's not worth the extra money and for all intents and purposes, I'd consider myself an HD snob. So, when it comes down to it, I don't think the average consumer is going to give two shits and this will be a lost format like laser disc, SACD and DVD-A. It's too soon for another format.
 
i i almost had to go buy a ps3 because i saw kung fu hustle was out.



yeah, visually i thought the movie was good, but the storyline was hard to follow
 
i got 4 blu-ray movies during bestbuy's buy-one-get-one-free deal. i'm waitin for prices to drop some more before i start buying in mass again. got blockbuster online to hold me over until then
 
Honestly, how many movies come out do you really NEED to own in HD? Ooh, I can see Will Ferrell's pores in talladega nights! Woopie! The current list of movies out on both sides of the aisles fucking blows. I'd consider re-buying the LOTR movies and possibly the first matrix in an HD format. Pixar movies would also demand consideration because they really do look fucking amazing in HD, but come on now. I'm not about to start over, I think this format war is going to be a speed bump in the road of media formats. One may or may not take over, if and when that time comes I'll be on board, but I really don't see the need to buy an HD format of every new movie that comes out so I can see the texture of the shirt that Adam Sandler is wearing in his latest sappy romantic comedy.
