though Japan was more open to indus? Prior to WWII there was a lot of discrimination regarding both groups even though Japan was more open to industrialization. Following WWII China turned to communism while Japan was tied closely to the West as a buffer against both the Chinese and U.S.S.R. It was not until President Nixon in the early 70’s that the U.S. began negotiations with China to develop a better relationship. However while we were just beginning to warm relations with China Japan had developed a tremendous manufacturing sector especially in cars and home electronics and was beginning to invest heavily in the U.S.
What did this mean in terms of how each group was treated upon entry into the U.S.?
I wanted to look further at the relationship between the U.S. and China and between the U.S. and Japan and how this relationship has affected the assimilation of those immigrating to the U.S. for a paper I'm writing.
