I think they are both good on their own merit. And I think they both bring things for us as the viewer to enjoy that sometimes the other missed.

The movie actually helped me to understand the book much better. I wasn't familiar /c the 18th century (or was it 17th century? I forget). Anyways, I wasn't familiar with that style of writing so after seeing the movie, reading the book was simple.

That is a great layout and a great scene. I love the quotes from the movie you put on there as well. :)

I read on IMDB that the director had to wave a huge red flag so Matthew McFadyen (Darcy) could see where he is supposed to walk because his eyesight is so bad

I agree about it being a very sweet moment when Darcy admits that he is socially awkward - he had such a wall up until then and then to admit his weakness to her :sigh:

I surprisingly liked Keira Knightley in the role of Elizabeth - I'm generally not a fan (not sure why - maybe it's because I'm not so fond of the POTC movies...) but I thought she did an excellent job in this movie - she was the perfect combination of forthrightness, cleverness, sarcasm, and a bit of shyness :)

I avoided the mini-series for a long time, mainly 'cause I'm not really into period pieces. And, really, the only reason I decided to watch was: Colin Firth. [That and I'd just read the book, after finding a copy of it at a thrift store for like a dollar.] I ended up adoring it, and it's the reason I now want to watch this version.

I know. Keira made this movie becomes something really special. She's my Elizabeth Bennet.

Absolutely. I don't like how Keira comes off in articles and interviews, but she's a phenomenal actress and this was no exception. She gave Lizzie such spunk - I love it.

yeah, i love matthew too. and now i know who you're talking about, shrrshrr. zoe was cool. lols. i cant wait to see matthew in more films. hehe.

I love this movie so much! I agree the score is absolutely gorgeous. I still haven't been able to get the soundtrack though. I think Keira portrayed Lizzie wonderfully. Then of course there's Matthew...his Darcy was beautifully portrayed. I really think he captured Darcy's character perfectly. I need to watch the movie again...

 I remember reading that somewhere. Apparently without glasses Matthew can't see very far. I still like to think that Joe's not behind the camera waving a big red flag and that Darcy is really walking to Lizzy through the mist. ;)

I love that quote from Matthew. The great thing is he is one of the most brilliant actors I've come across in a while. I love how he doesn't buy into the whole "Hollywood" way of life. He's a character actor rather than an actor who takes roles based on how much exposure he'll attain or wealth he will get from it. I really admire that about him.

I watched the movie first and then decided to read the book and they are both amazing, the character of Mr, Darcy was played wonderfully, I just love him and the chemistry between him and Lizzie was amazing,
the wierd thing is that my cousin had read the book before watching the movie but she said that halfway through the movie she was so caugh up into the movie she had forgotten the book and was starting to doubt whether they would end up tgether!

I've never seen the film or read the book. Every time I see the DVD I'm about to buy it but then see something else... I should remedy this soon :)
