Im Active Duty USAF and also Pre-Med student(A very unconventional one at that), I have thoughts of practicing within the service but seperating and practicing as a civillian could happen as well.
Not too long ago I had an oppurtunity to travel to El Salvador with my wife(she's from San Salvador), and I was swept up in the culture, it was a great experience. I loved the culture, food, environment, etc, and I told her I would actually be interested in living down there for awhile at some point, im about 3/4 fluent Spanish already so I can get around as well.
If I would be interested in this in the future what would be the path to get on? I realize it wouldn't pay that much but getting to practice for a few years in a country like El Salvador or Honduras would be very interesting to me.. Would I have any chance of getting somewhat of an "unusual" assignment like that if I stay in the Air Force or would I be better off going through a civillian program like "doctors without borders"? although im pretty sure they place you where they want, im specifically targeting central america so I can help people in an area, so my wife can live in her homeland again for awhile and it also being somewhere im familiar with the language..
EIther way it would be many years away but the interest is there regardless..
