Power Commander 5 and Auto Tune Info

Jamie, 09StreetGlider, and iclick,

This has been a very interesting thread. All of your efforts in reporting your results are greatly appreciated. I took delivery of an 09 Ultra last Friday and am almost done with the initial break-in period. Our local temps have been to the cool side so heat hasn't been an issue for me and the bike runs quite nicely. I'm not planning on any extensive mods the the engine and drive train. Maybe a freer flowing air cleaner and that's about it. I like the look and sound of the stock exhaust so changing that will be way down the road, if ever, but you never know!

Anyway, you've all give me a lot to think about. I'm interested to see how the bike feels when the weather warms up. We'll see!

Take care & Ride Safe,
Steve R.

I am also interested in the base ignition timing for my set up. ( See sig.) I had the new HQ TC 103-T build on the dyno jet, but the dyno tune made absolutely no changes in ign timing. Does anyone have a ignition base map for my set up or anything close to it? If I go to the PCV with AT could I simply store and flip different AFR's on the fly? I ask this because I think the PCV can be set to run at different AFR's. I travel every year from sea level to over 12,000 feet MSL. Ambient temps and altitude vary quiet a bit and with PCIII I need several different tunes to match conditions. On my PCIII with LCD, I lean the mixture in the cruise range of TP and RPM's, i.e. TP 10 % to 60% and rpm's 1500 to 3000. I build and store the maps at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 % leaner than the power tune. Then I can flip to lean as needed.

If they are Dyno Jet shop and have a 250i setup they should have a O2 sensor that will screw in the factory location in the head pipe. This is how we do it on our dyno if it is an option. It is for sure a better read, some techs are to lazy to take the time to install and remove the sencor. We haven't installed a V yet, but you are looking to get a close map to start with so the AT sensors would be needed yet.

Got the PCV retrofit in a 2008 Electra Glide with Auto Tune.
It has a R&R cycle 103 build I orderd from them to 8.9.1 compression.
Have heat cycles the bike and got over 600 miles on the bike now breakin it in. Have had it up to 5000 rpm in a few gears. It runs over 80 mph at 3000 rpm in 6th gear.
It pulls real hard. I'm trying not to hammer it too hard just yet. Its hard to not twist the throttle. It will lay down some rubber if you git on it too much.
Gonna call Jamie and ask about what I need to know to take it to somebody and have it dynoed and mabe a custom map done. I understand the PCV is for the 2009 models and the parameters are suppose to be different for the 2008 and below.

If you have the PCV with Auto Tune you don't need to have a custom tune performed on the bike. The Auto-Tune modules will do that for you, so just ride it! Regardless of which base map is in the PCV now the AT will tune it for you based on the target AFR's that were installed by Jamie. If you want to write an accurate base map you can do that by selecting "Accept Trims" in the PC software, like Tony (09Streetglide) described above, but ride the bike through all RPM and TP ranges before doing that, preferably several hundred miles so the trims can become firmly established.

The '07's can't take much more ignition advance, especially in the cruise range. My TC96 with stock compression is all zeros (no change) in the PCIII map except at 80-100% TP and only at higher RPM's (3-4

OK, I installed my HD Premium Oil Cooler and McEwen Oil Temp Gauge this week. So, I decide to push the AFR's up in the PCV to extend my fuel mileage a bit. I decided to go up to 14.6 in the cruise range and feathered it out. I left the power range alone above 40% throttle.

With the oil cooler installed, and riding 300+ miles today in 78 degree weather the oil temp never went over 225 while stopped at lights and in traffic. While cruising in 5th gear at 2700-2800 RPM the oil temps were between 215-220 degrees all day long.

I can tell a big difference in power with the AFR's up that high, but as soon as I twist the wick past 20% throttle then the power is back and is strong. Matter of fact I think I blew that ugly a$$ fairing off a Road Glide coming out of a HD dealer today.

Well...here's the MPG results. On the way down (130+ miles) I was riding directly into a strong wind most of the trip and got 40 MPG. On the way home (180 miles or so) I had the wind at my back and got 49 MPG.

I'm really happy with the whole deal...PCV, AT, HD Oil Cooler. What a combo, now the bike runs like it should have right off the show room floor. The heat is gone and it runs smooth as silk.

Next I'm going to hook up the 2 wire switch so I can load Jaimies power map to the PCV. I'm going to copy the AFR table I used today into that map and use the switch to switch between the power map and my autotune settings (attached below). That way I'll get the mileage I had today and when that ugly a$$ road glide comes back I can knock that fairing off for good.

JK...I actually like the Road Glide...but he did look shocked that he couldn't keep up.

Jamie has sent me a custom map, one I will use only when hauling the Bushtec trailer. In it, he's gone into much more detail with the map, adding map tables for each gear and ignition settings for each gear. I'm telling you this because when Jamie and I talked about a map for pulling the trailer, he said he thought it would take different ignition settings, now whether he's retarded or advanced it, I'm not sure.
The values read all "-2"s from 5-40% TP from 1750-3000RPM in the first 3 gears only, but I notice he's also got "+2"s or "+3"s in the 60-100%TP at 4250 RPM and greater for gears 3-6.
I'd welcome your comments on these changes and what I should expect when using the new map, which I haven't tried yet.

I installed my PC V on my 08 Road King last night. Couldn't wait to ride it today. The install was as you all have said, pretty easy. The one thing I don't like is using the velcro to attach it, I ended up using wire ties.

I took the bike out today for about an hour of highway driving, becasue the back roads were a little wet, the bike now runs really well in 6th gear. 60 to 70 in 6th is as 50 to 60 in 5th. Hills that typically slowed me before do not now. I was able to climb the hills increasing acceleration from 80 MPH.

The other thing that I noticed was that getting to top speeds ( that I run) is not as much of a labor for the bike. Entrance ramps are very easy, the bike responds.

Of course as others have said, I am going to get a good look at the gas mileage after a few tanks and a few smiles.

I have installed the SE AC last year and now the PCV. I am still considering the Jackpots. Although I think the PCV added some rumble to the stock pipes.
