Object Permanence

My daughter is 16 months old. She's getting increasingly difficult to change after she poops, and I'm thinking about introducing her to a small potty. By no means do I expect her to fully train, especially since we are expecting another baby on July 28th and I assume she'll regress when she sees her new brother wearing and using diapers. It just seems like people have more success when they introduce the potty earlier rather than later! I have no experience here, though, so can someone advise me as far as how to get started and what to avoid?
