On paper, the Droid, Droid 2, and Droid X all use the PowerVR SGX530 GPU, and the Galaxy S phones all use the PowerVR SGX540, which has (according to the manufacturer) 2x the sustained performance compared to the previous SGX530 GPU core. So, the Samsung Galaxy S phones have 2x the graphics capability.
Some other benchmark I've collected shows in relation to the SGS versus the Droid X:
Neocore shows the SGS is 30% faster.
GLBenchmark Pro 1.1 shows the SGS is 80% faster.
GLBenchmark HD 1.1 shows the Droid X is 20% faster.
Nanamark shows the SGS is 70% faster.
Both of the GLBenchmark 2.0 tests (with and without FSAA) show the SGS is around 250% faster.
Both of the GLBenchmark Pro tests (with and without FSAA) show the SGS is around 280% faster.
In terms of CPU speed the SGS is also considerably faster. So why is Quadrant showing the Droid X as being so much faster? Well, one of the tests Quadrant does is an IO Test. The SGS tops the Droid X in all benchmarks, apart from the I/O test in Quadrant, where the Droid X is an incredible 350% faster, and this is accurate.
There is a known bug (called the ext4 lag bug) on the SGS which nerfs its IO. You can see more information on this in the following link. Check out post number #194 where someone has installed a firmware on the SGS (according to the text, yet the pics say HTC Hero?) with the ext4 lag fix in place and shown his Quadrant scores side by side for a before and after picture. The fix more than doubles the SGS's quadrant score, and that's before ForYo.
