Poseidon

Well, they don't "need" to make one. Remember the movie industry is just that - an industry. It's a way of capitalising on the previous brand of the old movie and hopefully attracting some new fans.

Saw it last night and enjoyed it - big, spectacular, unnecessary, cheesy, heroic, pretty predictable, but good fun!

I thought the Latina girl's death was a bit senseless - they could have made it more dramatic. And she was one of the more likeable characters - unlike bratty boy who deserved to go down with the flippin' ship
(Put that in spoiler tags in case anyone hasn't seen it yet).

Yer adjectives are just what I would have used!

She was whiny. I'd have left her when she wouldn't go into the vent :p

As for
bratty boy, I was so hoping he'd die :D

But how did bratty boy (sorry, refuse to give him a name - that would be like acknowledging that he added something to the movie) manage to get stuck behind that grill thing at the end?

Change of topic - thought it was nice to see Kurt Russell back on the big screen. Guess he's gone from being Lead Hero Guy to Elder Statesman - suits him, I thought.

Oh, and I thought...

...that the first death of the waiter guy was fantastic. I mean, how dark is that for one of the other characters to have to shake him off physically! Thought that was most amusing!

Too be honest i dont think we are meant to look into how Coner got behind that locked grill. They just did it so everybody went awwww when Dylan saved his life at the last minute. Just one of them unexplained mystrys(sp) that there is no answer to .

I also liked seeing Kurt back in a film but cant believe how much he has actually aged.

I downloaded it the other night, started to watch it & thought what i saw was great decided not to watch it on the pc but i'll go to the cinema next week it's on at the IMAX. BTW i also downloaded the da vinci code & found that good i suggest people ignore what the critics say & see it for yourselves.

Well I thought Da Vinci Code was pants. But Poseidon rocks!

And yeah, Danielle H, agree Kurt Russell has aged. But I guess he's one Hollywood actor who has just let the natural passage of time go by as opposed to submitting himself to loaRAB of surgery. But he's still got that square jaw thing going on - I'd kill to have his 40- or 50-something kind of jaw line!

I eventually got around to watching this last night and really enjoyed. It is a really good mindless summer blockbuster but it is very cheesy in parts. The special effects though were really good and they must have spend a fortune on it!

I thought it was the most pointless film I have ever seen, ever. Well maybe not ever, but I've forced all the others out of my memory.

I thought it was some kind of joke/spoof for the first few minutes, especially when the actual event occured (after like, what, 4.2 seconRAB of film?), the dialogue was like.. completely ripped from Titanic.
Why the hell was the whole film just about them getting out of the ship, there was no insight into any of the characters lives or ANYTHING. There were random things thrown in that could have been developed to build SOME kind of story line, but they just... weren't. Why mention that guy was gay at the beginning and do a 20 second sob story about his bf leaving him, if they weren't going to develop it at all later in the film? Why was that guy a past mayor or something.. with references to him not being there for his daughter when she was a child, there was like no point to it :S What the hell was that "i like to work alone" guy about, I thought it was all going to be explained, but.. no..

At least with Titanic there was a story line and by the end of it I was like "OMG JACK NOOO YOU CAN'T BE DEAD!!!!!! YOU AND ROSE HAVE JUST FOUND EACH OTHER!!!!!!" but in Poseidon I couldn't care less about the characters, and when that kid was trapped in that grate thing (why the hell would a kid run off anyway in that situation, what a little creep) I just wanted everyone else to leave him. IMO i couldnt become attached to any of the characters, enough to care if any of them died really. Except maybe that girl who was travelling on the boat to go get to her brother in hospital or something. Her death was kind of sad, for about a second.

It was so boring, there were no flashbacks or snippets into the past or future or anything other than what was happening at that precise moment, and it just ended the second they got in that lifeboat? It would have been so much better if there were less people on the little mission, so they could have developed them all more, rather than just offering one tiny snippet of information about each character, that didn't allow you to get to know them at all.

The special effects were good, but they could have done so much more with the film, why didn't they?!

Definitely not worth seeing in my opinion. It is like a shorter, more rushed, crapper version of Titanic. Minus the story line, plus more effects and characters that have no point and don't make sense.

The special effects are quite impressive in parts, and must have cost a fortune, maybe thats why they had to cut back on sh*te actors and a rubbish script.

I might be making it out to be worse than it actually was.. nah.

I saw it today and thought it was quite good.

Although it did get quite far-fetched and tedious, like WHERE IN THE HELL DID THAT DINGY COME FROM AT THE END???

Also some people held their breath underwater for 5 minutes at a time which was so like...THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN.

But overall the special effects were great and it was a fast-paced film which i like.
