While I can understand why some people are tired of Brock, I also think that he's never been a really active character. Even in season one, he was in the role of the older mentor/guide/comic relief friend. Granted, he battled a bit more often, but those were mostly battles against Team Rocket. Maybe I've just accepted the fact that he is a supporting character and thus not as active as Ash or the current female trainer, which would explain why he doesn't bother me. Plus, his love daze gag is much better to me now with Croagunk than it was when both Misty and Max were pulling at his ears.
Yeah, at this point, I couldn't see Ash being anything other than the main character. There have been plenty of times where they could have replaced him, but they obviously didn't. After being the main character for thirteen years, I don't really see the writers suddenly making Ash a reappearing rival for other characters.
That doesn't sound durab. There are plenty of people who don't own any of the Pokemon games, so I don't think that you need to feel bad about that.
There have been male trainers you could play as in the games. For Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold and Silver, you had to play as a male trainer. Ever since Crystal, players are given a choice between playing as a boy or girl.
I believe that Ash is based off Red considering he was the first trainer in the first set of games. They did show off the male trainer from G/S/C named Jimmy in The Legend of Thunder special, but that was the only time he appeared. Brandon and Lucas, the male trainers for the third and fourth generation games respectively, have appeared, but only in brief cameos in the beginning of a few of the movies as Marinite mentioned. So, the writers haven't really been interested in using the male trainers, which makes me think that the chances of the new one appearing in an actual episode, let alone joining the main group, is pretty slim.
As for the idea of a time skip, I'm not sure how I feel about that. I still don't think that the ages in the games really affect what happens in the anime. I think that Red, and possibly Brandon and May, were eleven in their respective games, yet both Ash and May started out their journey at ten. Plus, the writers tend to not go that far from their general formula. They obviously do different things with that formula in every region so it isn't like every saga is exactly the same down to every detail. Still, a time jump seems a bit further than they have gone before. While I love Pokemon, I usually don't expect drastic changes to the way they handle the show. Though, I think there's a better chance of getting a time skip happening to make Ash older than to replace him altogether.
