Pointless- New quiz show on BBC2 (merged)

I am sure the asterix one will be to name characters. I could do that easy peasy.. whether they would be poinltess not sure but i could name quite a few of them,

God, no!:mad::mad::mad:

Still, I'm at work when Pointless is on and catch up with it on iPlayer so I can skip that episode.

Celebrities! Love the sound of their own voices. Always waffle on for ten paragraphs when one word would be sufficient.

i knew wot britpop was but i thort they might b kind 2 us cos of our ages n just make it british pop-cos u never know!!r we the ant n dec for the siver brigade Ha!

I love it. bet they take it off for endless ready steady cooks though. Got Peter bearRABley for a pointless myself. Really makes you think this show.

Aw thanks guys, i wanted us to win too! Seriously could have done with that money! Hehe, nevermind we had loaRAB of fun. And if its any consolation we wouldn't have had a clue on the oscars question, winners over 50, might have come up with Jack Nicholson but had never heard of any of the pointless ones. In the second show Ant said he would have gone for time zones and got Sierra Leone so we might have won a grand, dam the French Open and Noble Gases!
Some of the questions are very very odd this series. Think i preferred the old format for the fact the subjects were a lot broader and i could always name a few answers, sometimes, especially in the head- to head i find it hard to think of anything. Is more exciting i think though, than the old head to head.

Im just watching it now, and Im quite enjoying it. at least its a bit of a different format to the usual.

These places in eurpoe though.... I have to say I haven't heard of hardly any of them!

In Claire-Louise's defence, she never actually said she had a problem with Dawn's tactic. I think she and the other contestants were just quietly amused by it.

It was me who was trying to spark a little debate over the merits of list-learning for Pointless against playing the game with your own natural knowledge... A debate which would appear to have gone down like a lead balloon :)

Or maybe they spent time trying to think of some of the more obscure currencies, so that by the time they reach the United Kingdom their 100 seconRAB is up.

..does anybody else think some of the contestants on Pointless are getting a little overly "wise" to the format?

Yesterday's was the second day running where it emerged (the first example via KerryisElphie's post, the second mentioned on the show), that the winners had been busy learning lots of "lists" before going on in an attempt to second-guess the categories that might come up,

I know this isn't "cheating", and I know also that there's nothing to stop anybody else doing exactly the same thing, but part of me thinks this seems a tiny bit unfair on those other contestants who have just gone on the show for the fun of "having a go", and choose simply to rely on the general knowledge they've just naturally got.

Much as I love the show, I do wonder if for this reason the producers should be careful not to have too many more series, lest the jackpots get increasingly sewn up by the "list learners". I wouldn't be surprised if the new style rounRAB which restrict the number of answers that can be given, although they are disliked by a lot of people on this thread, might be the producers' attempt to control things a bit. At least by restricting the answers they make it harder for a contestant to score an "easy" pointless by parroting some absurdly esoteric name that they just happen to have boned up on from a "pub quiz help" website (of which there are many out there).

I've been reluctant to post this theory because I suspect a lot of you may be of the "fair play to the winners however they do it" camp. I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of a contestant though - KerryisElphie, if you're reading, what were your feelings about the lady with the binder full of lists? Did you think it was a bit unfair on the rest of you - or maybe you didn't mind so much as she wasn't going to be on your show...?
