Playing converted videos on your S60 -- Read inside

Too bad movies in 416x352 converted by SUPER didn't work, I only can convert to 352x288 max which is not ideal I get optimal results in SmartMovie but the playback is choppy. Worse than on my previous phone (T-mobile MDA) Hardware limitations, as the N80 is only ~ 200Mhz and MDA Compact = 416 Mhz?

I still hope for the release of TCPMP or VLC Media Player, they're far superior to SmartMovie. Who releases a non-free mediaplayer anyway.

Result on my N80

I included the subtitles in the video file (I used DVDx for this!)

If you want to see some 3gp examples of the xilisoft converter, I have some streaming clips at http://www.nwacg.net/vids

I created most of them for my 6230, and the test streams for the 6682.

If anyone is interested in the actual files, I can make them available. BTW, Xilisoft's 3gp converter kinda sucks. In fact, it has very bad rate control and only supports 8k audio. You'll see what I mean if you look at the clips.

Off topic a little but this app can rip audio from a video too (just select wav and the output) and it has an option for vob which means it should be able to author videos to DVD format too

I'm using version 3.20 of the converter, and 3.21 of the player. The trailer I used was CARS from the apple quicktime trailers site, which the .mov file is 20mb, the resulting .avi from smart movie converter is 3.6 mb set to HI RES 352x416. Its letterboxed and I select NO CROPPING.. I didn't see any bitrate adjustment except for audio - which sounds fine at the default settings.

The video however, is blocky - like .3gp video is.

with Smart, its 13 or so mb, but is MUCH sharper and no blockiness, but the its obviously too good, the phone stutters when playing it that an adjustment somewhere that I havnt found yet in smart. Still playing with it.

Are there other settings somewhere I'm missing?

I just don't get it...because I've followed these directions exactly and I still can't get smooth video. I can get good looking video but not smooth playback. Tested with an episode of entourage..hmm..maybe I should post a sample...I think I will..

here's a link to this tv ep of Entourage Season 3 I encoded using the exact settings as above:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/c54z41

I'm starting to think there is a HUGE difference between encoding cartoons and encoding actual films/television shows. Call me crazy but I just can't get smooth playback..is it my miniSD card maybe? can't be ..because like I said that episode of Naruto played AWESOME. "The Program" played awesome but was out of sync. Hmm...

Not sure you can always upload one to rapideshare and post a link here. Ill try it on my E61 and if it works there are pretty good chances it will also on the N73. If I recall correctly but file formats are 3gp so it should work.

For anyone who wants to try the file in smartmovie - the way I converted it... here's the download link. This is the 3.7mb smartmovie .avi file.

I am being too picky? or what?

Ok, since I've never messed around with Video much on the N90 I need some help here... can anyone else stream from this site? I'm on Tmobile + Tzones.

I tried to click one of the links, realplayer launched and said define access point first... so I loaded real player, went to connections, set proxy on, 216.155.165.050 port 8080, then re-tried and it said connection failed.

Now, when I've tethered to my laptop, I can access any site on the net on the laptop using tzones.

I'm sure someone is interested in this:

You only see the bitrate setting for video if you're using SmartMovie's own XviD encoder. Click on the configure button in the video settings box, and select XviD encoder...

how high did you go? i'm confused as to why people are having issue with mysh's app..

it encodes easily at 320X240 and you can get video bitrate up to 450

the n80 is the only exception because it's 352x288 but the 320X240 shoud work well too... anyways if you guys test it out i'm sure mysh could add components he's pretty much releasing a new version everyday cause it's still beta..

Very nice tutorial, however just for 3rd edition devices =(
N90 reproduces only the sound. It's a bummer, but thanks for the news Dr Tran.

Many people claimed to get good frame rates here, and yet no one seems to be interested in telling me how they did that. Come one, someone please help me! In SUPER, which configurations should be used to get good frame rate in N90? Or in SmartMovie, anywhere! Good frame rate please! =)

mysh's program is better then SUPER...i've tried it..anyways 352x288 mp4 video doesn't work on the n80...but it works if it's .avi smartmovie file...

I believe i used 520 (don't remember the exact bitrate) with a size of 320x240 because i can see a slight decrease in FPS if i keep the bitrate at 520 with a size of 352x288. The lag isn't a huge problem and is probably unnoticeable but most people but I notice it.
