Planet OF Apes Movies and TV show

Hello

What do you think about these?

I am a big fan and I and my best ones are the first one and the 3rd one when the 2 apes go back to the 70s I know a lot of people did not like this one much but I do.

Also the 2001 film was OK but not as good as the others.

I'm a bit of an Apes fanboy tbh. The original is of course a bona-fide classic but I really like all the films in their own way, I even like the remake. The tv series takes a few liberties but it's all good.

One of my favourite franchises.
Films 1 and 3 are the best although if you have the Bluray boxset you can see how much better Conquest is in it's original version.
A far more intense experience than the watered down edited version finally released here.

Unfortunately the UK boxset does not offer the extended version of Battle with the extra scenes in context like the US boxset does.

The longer version came out on R1 dvd some years ago but remains unavailable in the UK.

But fear not - the extra scenes are padding from the cutting room floor added to make a longer version for tv and the additional scenes are not very good.

I like the tv show even though it goes round in circles a bit.

Even the cartoon series is pretty good for its time.
The animation is crude but its probably the earliest example of a kiddies cartoon series with a continuous story

Thought the make up on the 2001 film looked worse than on the 70's films

Yes - the circular story is a fab idea despite them making some mistakes.

In Escape,Cornelius relates the story of the ape who first said no - Aldo when in fact it was Ceasar

Aldo appeared in Battle and was anything but a hero having killed Ceasars son

Loved the planet of the apes movies, bought them all in the boxset just b4 xmas, original is the best but i also enjoyed the sequels, the one with ceasar was well good, showing the apes rise 2 power, the remake was alright and id easily watch a sequel, dont know if we'll ever get one though.

i love the original films, the first being just sci-fi perfection.

i think tim burton missed a trick with the remake, as i think that it would have been one of the few films that would have benefitted from cgi - for the apes.

i imagined it would have been really cool to have had ape city with all the different species in scale with each other, gorillas, chimps, orang-utans etc, right down to the smaller apes, rather than the obvious men-in-suits (which i am usually an advocate for)

If you liked Conquest you should pick up the Bluray set which for the first time ever gives us the brutal directors cut.
Unfortunately the traditional family audiences were horrifed at the directors cut of Conquest at a test screening so it was quickly recut , had its ending changed and was delivered to cinemas in the watered down version most remember today.

From a marketing point of view they were right .
The audiences who had lapped up Escape with its mostly jovial and humour based story (until the end) would have been gobsmacked at Conquest uncut , but for adult audiences the directors cut is far better film .

There's one shot in the trailer where a man gets set on fire with a flame thrower but the theatrical version removes those shots completely.
Fancy risking life and limb and being on fire for quite a long time (as he is in the uncut version) only to find your work edited out:cry:

Always been a fan of the movies and the series. Definitely in my DVD collection. l never get bored with them.

James Naughton [Pete Burke] from the series turned up on Damages last season. Glad to see he's still healthy and working.

Could this have been intentional. And that it was them who changed the time line by bringing Ceasar into that time line as opposed to Aldo evolving?

Haven't seen them in a while and Escape is one of my least favourites.

The TV series is quite good, shame it was so short.

But I never did understand the ending of the remake.

The ending of the remake matches the ending of the book that the movies were based upon - Monkey Planet by Pierre Boule. In the book, the human (Ulysse) who is the equivalent of George Taylor/Leo DaviRABon escapes from the Planet of the Apes in his repaired spaceship, but when he returns to Earth, 700 years in the future from when he left, he finRAB that apes are now the dominant force.

In the book, and the remake, the Planet of the Apes is not Earth. But it is a parallel planet.

I'm a fan of the films, but the series was hit and miss. I think that's why they ended the series after just one run.

Because it was turning into a soap opera for monkeys.:D

I agree.

It is clear that while each film was being made there was no indication that further films would be required.

The tv show was flop in the US where they even ended it's network run with one episode unscreened.

I enjoyed it but after the 14 episodes it is hard to think of where they could have taken the story other than the loop they were already stuck in

Although one would have hoped for a little consistency as Paul Dehn was involved in the scripting of all the movies other than the first.

Another one that loves them all. Escape is superb and adRAB a whole new twist on the franchise and is darker than many people realise.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the new film they are making.
