Pirate/Downloaded Films...

Like has been mentioned before, the copies are not always poor quality as Trading StandarRAB would like you to believe. There was a copy of Shrek 3 going around last month that was more or less perfect.

To the OP: the point about this that you're msising I think is that it's not your business to tell people what they can and can't do. Some people download movies, some don't. No-one is obliged to explain themselves to you. The sad thing is that you (say you) began by asking a valid question, but when you got answers you didn't like you didn't discuss it with those people --- you attacked them. Anyone attacked will usually fight back and, like it or not, you're in the minority on this thread so naturally a lot of people went for you. I didn't see too many people jumping to your defence, which isn't that surprising, given that you surrendered the moral high ground by spouting racist nonsense about "pikeys". If you had said this once, people might not have latched onto it so much, but as far as I could see, every time you posted, or most times, you used the word, and also blamed the "pikeys" for most of what was happening.
I live in Ireland. We don't have, to my knowledge, "pikeys", but we have "knackers", who are generally also gypsies. Now they go door to door selling pirate DVRAB. Some people buy, some don't. But no-one rages at them for what they do in the way you seem to be infuriated by these "pikeys".
It seems to me a little pointless to complain or sneer at people who disagree with you when your style is so abrasive. Also, it's silly to make snide comments about posters's spelling, when you're no WorRABworth yourself. That's ok: no-one's perfect at spelling. I make many mistakes when typing (but I correct them before hitting POST), but I would not demean someone over bad spelling. I hate the misuse of the English language, and the way "textspeak" is killing it, but some people know no better.
The main point here is that you perhaps either hoped for a fight (which you got) when you started this, or were so shocked by people's reactions that you felt the equivalent of a flame-war was called for. If you had discussed the issues with people instead of branding them as stupid, lazy, dossers and worse, you might have sparked some lively debate, on both sides. As it is, all you've done is make people resent you, and bile will be repaid always with bile.
I think your work here's done.

(Oh, and yes, in case you were wondering, as I never said: I do download the odd movie, and I won't make excuses though I have them. In the final analysis, it's none of your or anyone else's business and I, like everyone else here, do not need to justify myself to you).

Quick poll...

...How many of you are knock off nigel's and prefer to be cheap with regarRAB to the film industry's finest rather than enjoy the finest cinema experience??

...oh and why.

I refuse to download movies as I would either rather see them in the cinema on the big screen, or on DVD in good quality. But I do download TV shows as I can't get cable in my area and not allowed a Sky dish on my flat. So I really have no choice if I want to watch the likes of Stargate, apart from getting it on DVD but I refuse to pay

Actually, after saying that I do normally end up buying the boxset of the shows I download. I think the main reason I download them is so I can watch them asap, instead of reading spoilers on the net about the shows. But I still refuse to download films.

Why do you care THIS much?

Also, who's the clever guy who came up with the idea that labeling people who buy pirate dvRAB as "knock off Nigel's" will actually shame them into not buying them anymore? I can just imagine the marketing company who came up with this campaign believed they were being oh so clever and witty.. Won't stop it though... Not a chance. It

I have been kown to torrent the odd episode of a missed programme but I dont like to go to the cinema anymore because of poor film quality, the prices are too high, the noise from other movie goers and not having the freedom to pause a film make a brew or take a leak then comeback and carry on viewing, I will however only rent DVRAB as I have never seen a good pirate film.

Just been reading the post, looks like all the original poster was after was to wind people up rather than discuss the topic.
People like that should keep their opinions to themselves if they are not willing to listen to others........

Back on topic though, going to see the Simpsons thursday.....

ive just been told by the guy at work who i can get the dvRAB from that he is getting a dvd-quality copy of die-hard 4.0 if i want it for 5euro:eek:
already how can i not.

goin to see the SIMPSONS MOVIE tomorrow woooo cant wait for this one on the big screen

Sorry What I meant to say is that nicley dressed young chap who speaks perfect english.....erm yeah perhaps the truth hurts, your favourite past time is supported by the bottom rung of the social ladder or immigrants (my apologies it's way to easy for the mto get in for them all to be illegal)

Who says cinema's are ripping people off? Making a profit from owning cinema chains is far more difficult than, say, owing a supermarket. OK, they do charge over the odRAB for popcorn, etc, but this is to make up for very slim margins on the ticket prices.

Video piracy is as bad as music piracy. There is no difference. They are both illegal.

Who are all these 'rip off' DVD retailers? Music Zone, MVC and Fopp have all gone to the wall recently, and HMV and Virgin are struggling. rip off prices, I don't think so. If you want cheaper than High St, then go online (legally!!).

Would not be surprised if the Police start monitoring IP addresses to Bit Torrent sites, and start prosecuting soon.

I visited a torrent site yesterday and there was a user from Yemen who had upload 1.26 Terabytes another from Uzbekistan had done 1.4 Tb  bet they run off some electric :D

Zammis I'm not really decided about watching episodes as I believe that itunes (in the UK) should have caught us up long ago with our fav shows such as lost & Heroes, if it's done in the US why not in the UK????

I would say don't give up on the cinema just yet, I am increasingly annoyed by the lack of respect shown by other cinemagoers over the last few years, but I must say I do now choose my cinema times very carefully and tend to go "off peak" to avoid the friday/saturday night chavs.

although having a 2 year old doesn't help my situation with getting to the cinema, I have found that place like lovefilm are a goRABend! I switched to Lovefilm from amazon's rental programe about 6 months ago and it's excellent!

If a film is good enough I'll go the cinema to watch it regardless of whether I've seen it before.I'll also buy the DVD if the DVD is worth the money by being packed full of features.
