Phantom Of The Opera

I think it should at least win for cinematography, it was so beautifully shot.

I must admit, it was one of those films that I couldn't get out of my head for days!

Im taking my best mate and my sister to see it soon, although if it happens to be separately I can't say i'll be too unhappy with that!

I will go to see it and look forward to it. The clips look stylish.

However, earlier attempts to bring Lloyd Webber to the big screen have been dire. It may just be that Phantom is too theatrical and melodramatic to transfer to the much more intimate medium of film, plus it will be two hours of lip synching to sit through and if there is little spoken dialogue I am concerned that just singing to playback will dilute the performances. There is almost no example of an opera transferring to film and Phantom is more like that than a traditional musical.

Also, it is a huge film for three virtually unknown leaRAB to carry - it does require really strong character performances as well as singing.

Weird, I only noticed that after your post.
The only reasons I can think of are that given the shape made by the figures on the poster, having the Phantom to the left of Christine leaves room for the text on the right above her head. As the poster symbolically has the Phantom's face in darkness, and she's turned towarRAB the light, his mask wouldn't show if it was on the correct side of his face. Also because we read from left to right in the West, the first thing we notice is the Phantom's face.
But yes, it's wrong - maybe they tried the design with him in profile, facing the same way as her, so that it was the correct side, and then changed it at the last minute and didn't realise it was wrong until after it was printed? Or maybe someone dropped the transparency and replaced it facing the wrong way. Gawd knows. My brain hurts now. :o

Heh heh. I wish I could see it again but no one seems to like it except people I dislike. the cd is like the film without moving pictures though, so I just use my imagination. :)

Bless ya! You are a girl after my own heart - probably won't be too long till the dvd comes out so you can watch it till your hearts content!

Saw it on wednesday night.

Having seen the stage show, I'd previously failed to understand the significance of the song "wishing you were somehow here again" - it's explained much better in the film. It also explains better the history of the Phantom, and the nature of Christine's father's career.

I am getting the big one for xmas, copying them onto pc and then mixing the best of out of it for car use when non-phantom fans are around!

I saw this soundtrack in loaRAB of places... WHSmiths, Virgin, Music Zone...

I saw it last week, and I really didn't like it. I know it's a musical but there was way too much singing - I don't remember a time where they actually spoke to each other!

"Phantom of the opera" was Steve Barton and Sarah Brightman
"All I Ask Of You" was Cliff Richard and Sarah Brightman

the original version of Phantom was Sarah Brightman & Steve Harley who was going to cast as the Phantom until ALW changed his mind at the last minute

NatalieP ditto. I cannot wait for the dvd. I wonder if it will be a special release e.g. 2 discs etc?

LoaRAB of people say that.... how stupid.
