Phantom Of The Opera

I know they leave out the section staring 'all your fantasies' or something in POTO main song!



I am having the cd for xmas, for now I'm living off the tasters on the website and my stage recording! am v excited.

I cant wait for dvd, but no, no idea when!
 
My mum used to have the original sountrack on a tape from years ago but the silly woman lost it! That gives me the excuse to get the film soundtrack but I can't find it anywhere, Ive looked in Woolies, HMV and Smith's and its not there! Where the hell can I get it? Im desperate!

Also about the DVD when it comes it'll feature the main theme uncut, I was right they had changed the lyrics!
 
Yes I don't get the negative reviews either. Everyone I know who has seen it thinks it was brilliant, I so wanna see it again. There was only one other film I saw at the Cinema and was desperate to see again and that was Titanic( and guess what the critics didn't like that either!)

Im guessing this is one of those movies the critics don't like but the public does. They bashed the original stage version but didn't stop millions going to see it. And Im sick of the comparisans with Moulin Rouge as well, I personally found that very overated.

Can I just say how suprisingly good Jennifer Ellison is as well. She actually has quite a good singing voice, and her accent was very convincing.
 
TwinkleToes, did you actually ask at the counter in Woolies? I got mine there in my local town (sorry, down South, so not much use to you!) the day the film came out, and it was on a 'buy one CD, get second half price' promotion. The CD boxes on the shelf were like the ones singles come in, but when I took mine up to the counter they produced the full digipak from a drawer. I couldn't see the other CD I wanted, so I asked at the counter and they couldn't find one on the racks either, and produced that from a drawer too, so it might be worth asking, as they should have copies in as it's part of their promotion, but it could be tucked away and not visibly displayed if they haven't had time to put the dummy cases back on the racks.

I got the full-length/special edition CD, which has nearly all the dialogue on as well, I think it was
 
I haven't been lucky enough to see the stage show, but I did have the soundtrack album a few years ago when Michael Crawford was playing the lead. I hope to get the dvd :)
 
I saw it on stage at a young age. All I remember was the chandelier and I think being scared at the phantom. I'd love to go again but my family aren't really fans.... :(

Anyone else have the album then? I'm listening to it now, it rocks!
 
Hmmm.... I guess I compare it to Moulin Rouge a ittle, though MR is in my top five films. (Twinkle Toes, it grows on you, it really does) POTO is so different and still so wonderful. I was upset to see BBC had given it 1/5. thats just a personal attack from someone who hates 80s pop/synths surely?

I did not like Jennifer Ellison. He singing was fine, but she sounded and looked so daft when she said : 'its the phantom of the opera' or whatever for the hundreth time. She was also being very 'soapish.'

Grrr.
 
I think it was influenced by MR in the way that it was filmed but thats it. I personally love the music, I always have from way before I even saw the stage show. These arsey critics always slag of films that arn't seen to be "cool" and "trendy".
 
Ignoring the awful Batman Movies, Schumacher hasn't made that many terrible films. However, I'll never forgive the man for them.

Oh and I can't stand Lloyd Webber musicals either, so its not gonna be a banker for me....

I heard that all of the vocals were live on the set... whether or not thats true I don't know.
 
I couldn't possibly reccomend it win oscars for acting, to be fair. However the sets, costumes and CGI was pretty good. Its slightly easier to do those type of things in this film rather than a standard one.

Won't Lord of the Rings win anything this year, that'll be a first :p
 
I don't see the problem with dubbing the actors singing. Of course it makes it better if they are singing for real, but in alot of the old classic musicals dubbing was really common.

For example Audrey Hepburn's singing was dubbed in My Fair Lady, and in The Sound of Music I think Julie Andrews is the only actor who actually sings for real.
 
yes, I think they're very biased. I get that some people dont like musicals.. and those people tend to be critics... but if you like the music then you'll love the film.

The songs truly are great. *is listening to think of me*
 
My favourite song in both versions is the Phantom of The Opera, I remember seeing it on TOTP years ago with Sarah Brightman singing it( don't no who she was singing with but it wasn't Micheal Crawford). The part when The Phantom takes Chrsitine down to his lare is the best part of both the stage and movie versions. It senRAB shivers down your spine.

And in the movie the phantom is so very sexy and attractive you can hardly blame her for going with him!
 
The only actor who was dubbed was Minnie Driver as she is not an operatic soprano, everyone else is singing for real. They showed the female star's (sorry don't know her name) audition tape on This Morning.
