Phantom Of The Opera

I noticed his hair changed colour when the mask came off as well. Apparenly when he wears his mask he creates an illusion that he is Don Juan( like in the opera he wrote).

It's actually to avoid the Phantom's weapon of choice, the Punjab lasso. If people's arms are down by their sides, it's easy for him to get the lasso over their heaRAB and round their necks, but with their hanRAB up, he can't do it.

saw this over the weekend with aomeone who hadn't seen the stage show (I have) ans she loved it and so did |I - it's 99.9% like the stage show and I would recommend you see iy

In an article in The Times yesterday he said how many auditions they'd had to sit through before they found actors of the right age, right looks and who could actually sing! Said it was also very embarrassing when they received a load of audition tapes (some from really big names) who were tone deaf but thought they'd get away with being dubbed (wish they'd kept the tapes - they could have been highly amusing :D ), so it looks as though NONE of the actors will be dubbed. Andrew Lloyd Webber also had the final approval on any casting, so fingers crossed.

I'll wait for the reviews, and if they're not too bad I'll probably go and see it.

i have seen it, i went on friday night and it was incredible. The scenery they used was amazing and the cast were really good too. i wont put too much info so i dont spoil it for those who have not seen it, but the way they show the past of the phantom, is great as it enables you to have sympathy for him and sort of understand why he turns out the way he does. simon callow was good as the scrap metal merchants that buy the theatre.

This is a must for anyone who loves the stage show and i would reccommend it to anyone that has not seen it either.

I thought the phantom was fabulous. His voice was soo.... memorable. He looked great, the mask and his outfit rocked and also he was rather attractive.
*SPOILER*
Dont know about you guys, but I had no urge for Christine and Rauol to be together. She should have chosen Phantom, I would.

I wasn't overly impressed with some of the singing in the film, but have to say that now having bought the soundtrack CD and played it several times, I am becoming addicted to it. I think that next time I see the film - probably when it is released on DVD, I will be more in touch with the music.

Any guesses as to when the DVD will be released ?

I can tell you for DEFINITE that all Cast have had to sing their own lines under order by Mr Webber.
The Film has been made by Joel S as him and Llloyd webber are good mates and were originally gonna make the film about 15 years ago.
My source is Interviews from Joel Schumacher and Llloyd webber.

It was an awseme movie, awseme cast, awseme singing, awseme locations and an awseme script. It was superbly shot with stunning sets and I really enjoyed the way the actors acted and the signing was superb.

The interaction between all the cast was top class, Gerald Butler was awseme as the Phantom as was Emmy Rossum. They both played there respective parts to the thorough, and they graced the screen with there presence.

Emmy Rossum should get an Oscor for her role in this film. She was at her best and I don't think she could do any better. Supported by a great cast and lavish sets, this film clearly matched the hype and easily managed to capture the essense of the play.

I have not read the french book of "The Phatom of the Opera" nor have I seen the stage opera. But I went into the movie after reading the rave reviews on imdb.com and I was not dissapointed at all. The movie had me spellbound from start to finish. I found myself booping up and down in time with lots of the music and I was even signing to myself at some times. This movie was great for newcomers to the story by the French author of the book and Andrew Llloyd Webbers acclaimed version.

Well done to all the cast for a great movie :P.

Saw the film last Saturday and have mixed feelings about it. I have seen the stage show twice and just loved it. The music is fantastic, so I had to see the film.

I feel that I watched two films. The first half seemed disappointing. I just seemed to be a series of dis-jointed scenes which somehow didn't flow together. The part I really disliked was when the Phantom takes Christine down to his lair - and she suddenly appears riding a horse down the stairs - what on earth was that all about !

From Masquerade onwarRAB, the film really got going and I really enjoyed this half. Its a though the director had said 'its not working - lets try something different'.

The final sequences were extremely moving, particularly when Raoule takes the musical box to Christines grave. And the absolute silence in the cinema was broken only by the sound of sobbing from some of the audience. (seemed strange not to have the rapturous applause as in the theatre! - I said to my partner I feel that we should be applauding)

But overall I did enjoy it and can't wait to get the DVD when it is released. If you love the stage show, you will love the film.

I am a BIG "phan" of the Phantom of The Opera...and I am going to see the movie tomorrow...I can't wait..

I have heard some reviews on it both good and bad...but I rather see it for myself in order to judge

Glad to hear a rave review! I agree with all you say, maybe except the Oscar partt. :)

Most people I know hate it, and it annoys me that I cant rave about it to peeps!

I read the bad reviews and was gutted, I so love this movie. I might be going to see it for the third time on wednesday. Its so amazing.

I do understand what you're saying (I also agree I felt I should applaud)

However, when he takes her down is my favourite bit, probably because of the music, hehhe. However I think there is a sag between this and the masquerade section... the whole Carlotta thing I'm not keen on, and when they sing about letter.

Though I agree that after maquerade is get really good. I love the way they did the point of no return. The whole ending rocked, I just annoyed when people say its overlong. I just wish things go and on and on so I loved the fact the ending took a while to come!

SounRAB like the article I read was taken from the same interviews - it stressed several times how long they've been trying to make the film, and how they insisted it was done properly. As I said, fingers crossed!

Was it just me or did they change some of the lyrics form The Phantom of The Opera. Im sure in the stage version Christine starts the song singing " beneath the opera house, I know he's there" I may have misheard but she sings a different line in the movie.

I finally saw the movie the other night and I was not at all disapointed. It is superb, the sets, the costumes and the music is amazing. Hearing it in the cinema with suround sound was fabulous. Even though I knew it was coming I nearly jumped out of my seat when the overture started!

I thought the girl who played Christine was very good so beautiful and such a lovely voice, and the Phantom was so sexy and attractive even though he spent most of his time behind a mask you could see why he had such a hold over her.

I would really recomend this, Im going to see it again next week!

I don't think it should neccesarily be overlooked at the Oscors, the acting, singing were superb. I dont think it should win neccesarily, but it should be nominated for sure.
