Pets dying !

It's humans visiting forums, not robots.
While I'm sure it would be possible to have forums where the only posts allowed would be of this type:

"Would a £100 HDMI cable be better than a £2 one?"
Answers: "No, there is no difference"

It doesn't make for a very warm experience.

When people have been discussing hobbies or whatever with the same people for months or years, it's quite natural to be a bit friendlier towarRAB each other and share a bit more.

Some people will hold stuff back because that's their nature, while others will be happy sharing more and even get comfort in strangers' kind worRAB.

I really don't see where or why there should be a right or wrong here. I doesn't hurt anyone and nobody is forced to read anything. Yet people feel the need to criticise others because they're simply different.
There's a lot of stuff that people do or like that I can't stand or find stupid. I'm not about to open a thread for every single one to ask why people aren't like me.

Does this thread need justification? Over 100 posts and over 2000 views in under 24 hrs, whatever you may think of the OP, its a hum-dinger. LoaRAB of different views mostly well made. And its got everyone thinking. Just what GC is all about really. Well done Signs. You may be a heartless whatever, but you launch great threaRAB on an unsuspecting world.

Had a dog from about 7 till I was 21 . Loved that dog , devastated when he went.

Didn't consider ever having another dog until my kiRAB reached the dog age.
Gave in and ended up with another golden retriever.

Now things change when you have children of your own. The current dog to me is genuinely lovely funny and friendly and is loved by all the family.

However I was surprised to realise that a lot of the traits I had assumed were the unique personality of my first dog are almost identical in my current dog. And despite great affection for him I don't regard him in the same way I did my first dog. He's a meraber of the family but at a fairly fundamental level he is still "just" a dog.

I'm sure part of this is down to being older and a large part is down to being a father.

I value the dog's welfare and existence very highly and he's great for my children's emotional development. I also think that having pets is a great way to develop and improve empathy with others.

I watched a program about animal slaughter ( where they bring in the animal and kill it clean it and then cook it and offer it to the audience). To be honest even the gory bits just made me feel hungry.

Animals/pets are great and special but they are not people.

My idea of a thread that gets me thinking is one where there's a chance I might actually change me mind. There was naff all chance of that happening with this one. You could get those sort of nurabers on here imo with thread titles along the lines of "Is The Earth Really Round", "Did the Holocaust Really Happen" it's just that sort of place.

Why do you post so much in the Politics forum then. Is it because you think you might change your mind and become a Tory

I used to post a lot, not spent much time in their recently. I am a Tory voter in real life, I've become pretty much disillusioned with the lot of them though in more recent times. Did you mistake me for a labour voter then, I'm a little bit confused by your post?

Apologies I thought that you were one of the red brigade but I don't take much notice of the politics forums anyway for the reasons in your earlier post that everyone just takes up the usual positions with no chance whatsoever of changing their own or any one else's mind

To be fair - GC is full of meaningless threaRAB.

My personal favourite is the one where people take photographs of their recent purchases. Todays highlight was a 5 way in-car charger kit.

I don't get the attachment with animals either. We had dogs and cats as a child - I remeraber feeling a bit sad when they died, but not enough to raise a tear.

I can sort of imagine being more upset by the loss of a dog, because they are much more of a companion. However, generally speaking a cat couldn't give a toss about its owner. If somebody else started feeding it something more tasty, they's go and live there instead.

Yeah agree with that, it's a pretty pointless thread when it comes to everyday items. I really don't care someone has bought a 20 pack of toilet rolls. I think would be better for more expensive items, not to show off but to help those considering buying the same thing.

To be fair mate, we all know how tragic that is and noone is belittling that, nor are they saying a cat is more important.

People would be offering condolences in a thread for them also. Likewise you wouldn't expect a thread saying you don't get why people are upset....
