THe high horse comment is a bit of australian slang, I didnt expect most yanks to get it. Anyhow..

If the police had a video of you murdering someone that would not be enough to prove you murdered someone. Not even close. They would still need to have physical evidence eg a body, weapon etc. They would need to show motive and put the suspect at the scene via another method eg dna, blood stains or something. A video would be great grounds for arrest and search warrants but in no way would constitute proof beyond reasonable doubt.

For what it's worth, if the camera has a picture of your license plate and not your face you can get away with the ticket. You have to go to court and fight it but if they do not have your face they cannot prove you were riding the bike. It could be anyone on your bike, and you do not have to tell them anything plead the 5th. You are innocent until proven guilty. I got this from a friend of mine who is a prosecuting attorney.

What I find interesting, the OP was not disputing the fact that the light was red - only complaing that he decided to pay his dads ticket because his only excuse for running the light that he Knew was red - to keep up with his son.

I am of the thinking, I wish all lights had cameras - here in my town a red light means two more cars - in a neighboring town that has camera's - at those lights EVERYONE is so polite, I love it.

as we ALL KNOW, a light that just turns green is the MOST dangerous..

An officer does not issue the summons. They are automatically generated similar to an EZPass violation.

So you are paying fifteen percent more for the violation? You have zero documentation the fine was paid. Not to mention that you are far from the first to think of this. The collection agency simply pours the coins into a change counter. Red light Camera violations usually come under a civil statute and the process is handled by a vendor and not the municipalities court.

Lastly, when you send all those pennies in a box, hopefully the box isn't damaged in transit but the Post Officer never damaged a box spilling the contents. One penny short and the vendor gets some payback by refusing the short payment possibly causing a late violation increase.

Why pay an out of state ticket, especially a photo red light ticket that is not legal anyway, just a way for them to extort money from people stupid enough to send them the money.

Nobody pays red light tickets here in Tennessee or Georgia, thats why they are doing away with these illegal tickets.

And the clerk who was being PAID to count those pennies probably thought the same thing of you. Looks like you both won.

And maybe I missed it, but has the person who started this thread, 75 replies later, ever responded? I'm thinking the whole thing is bogus, right up there with 'my 117 build', or whatever it was.

Pretty child like to send penny's, again why pay an out of state photo ticket there is nothing they can do to you. These aren't real tickets if you or your lawyer read the fine print very carefully it also states no cash accepted credit cards or money orders only.

Guess you made a fine point for your sibling to be a smart ass.

So many posts uninformed. The camera got a nice shot of my license plate on a deserted street at 11pm on a Sunday night - and I paid $80 to Marietta Ga. for it - and despite that I ride pretty hard and fast; I DO NOT RUN RED LIGHTS as a rule!

Partly because I watch THIS once in a while:
