Ozzy Osbourne solo (vs) Black Sabbath w/ Ozzy (vs) Black Sabbath w/ Dio

It's pitch harmonics...not pinch harmonics lol. yeah i see your point but, I mean, Zakk don't give a damn you know? He likes playing that so he plays it. I don't think he even really did that to try to distinguish himself from others, I think he just played it and it stuck. I got to admit though they do start to get predictable after a while you can hear a song by him you've never even heard and pretty much know exactly when certain things will happen.

Don't know where to start with this thread. First of all I don't dislike Ozzy solo stuff at ALL. I've been known to defend it to those who hate it. I'm also big fans of Zakk Wylde and Randy RhoaRAB so I guess I must put everything into context in this thread.

Theres too much **** rock in Ozzy solo stuff. Dio is decent in his own right but what he did with Sabbath just doesnt match what they did with Ozzy. Tony Iommi is a better guitarist than Zakk Wydle and Randy RhoaRAB put together.

In my opinion this one isnt even close. Sabbath with Ozzy.

No-one picked Dio? :soapbox: I did!! Well maybe Im the only 'idiot' to do so but I think that Dio with Sabbath (and in general) is well better than Ozzy Osbourne.
As for the 'annoying as hell voice' comment about Dio, I would be more compelled to attribute that term to Ozzy Osbourne at times!!
Now It's not that I dont like the original stuff with Ozzy Osbourne. I love the debut album & Paranoid and have all the others through download have listened to most of them but for me Dio's work with Sabbath (although minimal in comparison(album wise) it really stanRAB out against anything Ozzy ever did solo or with Sabbath(IMO)).

I think Dio is a much much better vocalist than Ozzy and I would rather listen to him anyday.
Also might I add when the option for Dio with Sabbath was included only the Heaven & Hell album was mentioned!! what about 'Mob Rules' (1981)or 'Dehumanizer' (1992)??? Also they did an album with Ian Gillan which wasnt included in the list -'Born Again' (1983) but I can kind of agree as Ian Gillan (as much as I love Deep Purple and the likes) doesnt really suit Black Sabbath (IMO).

"As far as Ozzy's rendition of Sabbath songs...horrible, but I'd rather listen to most of Ozzy's solo work than Ozzy with Sabbath."

I am not too big on Ozzy's solo work, I think he is massively overrated and the only real song that 'does it' for me is 'Bark At The Moon'. In addition I think his work with Black Sabbath ranks way higher than any solo stuff. Also Dio's solo stuff ****s on any of Ozzys (IMO)

"Sabbath and Dio are bloody horrible, in my opinion. Dio is an amazing singer, but he can't take the place of Oz."[/QUOTE]

I think Dios voice is excellent and the 'Dehumanizer' is my truly my favourite & the best Black Sabbath album (IMO).
I can understand people might say Dio is not Black Sabbath and I would agree to a certain extent. I see Black Sabbath as having two sides to them (not counting the Ian Gillan period for obvious reasons) firstly with Ozzy as pioneers of Heavy Metal (which I am a big fan of also) & secondly with Dio (which just happens to be my personal favourite). Also I appreciate how people can recognise that Dio is an amazing vocalist. I also have one of Dio's solo albums 'Holy Diver' which i think is fantastic.
I would even go as far to say Dio is my favourite Metal vocalist (and probably the best in terms of vocal capabilities).
Anyway I knew this wouldnt go down too well and maybe I am the only one (but at least someone appreciates it).
As for Ozzy Osbourne nowadays he does my ****ing head in.
So you can take your Ozzy Osbourne & shove it up your ass! (only joking!)

Can you honestly say that Tony is better? Zakk and Randy are two of the most skilful. Tony created anthemic songs (as did Zakk and Randy), but is he really more skilful on guitar?

The riff in Zero The Hero is fucking awesome though!
Go to 1:40 in that track and tell me that that isn't a great metal riff. It's amazing! Unfortunately everything else with Gillan sucked :(

I quite like Trashed off that album as well.

It's not a bad rock album, It's just a terrible Black Sabbath album if you see what I mean.

Oh and here's some background on that awful album cover..
AlbumCovers-BlackSabbath-BornAgain1.jpg

The album cover, which featured the image of an infant with horns and vampire fangs, was designed by Steve Joule. He also handwrote the lyrics that appear on the inner bag. The deliberately lurid design was submitted by Joule in a vain attempt to be rejected from this design commission, as he was also retained on a lucrative contract by Ozzy Osbourne's organisation for his sleeve designs. To Joule's horror and surprise, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler approved the image for the album. Gillan and Ward were not present when the decision was made, though they later noted that they hated the finished cover. Gillan reportedly hated the cover so much, that he threw a box of 50 recorRAB out a window. Joule reports that he was drunk and high on speed when he drew the finalized designs for the album.

It was a toss up for me between Ozzy's career with Black Sabbath and his solo career. Ozzy's first 2 solo albums Blizzard of Oz and Diary of a Madman were both amazing and arguably on par or better than anything Sabbath ever produced but things started to go downhill musically after DOAM. You got to give him credit for having a career that has lasted as long as it has though, and still managing to be at least semi-relevant in the rock/metal world

I meant cheesy as in overly melodramatic, which most Motley Crue isn't. I guess cheesy can also mean cheap or something and I admit Motley Crue would fit that definition better than Dio. By the way, that "Wisconsin dairy farm" remark was awesome.

And VocalsBass, you're right about Vince Neil, he's a somewhat mediocre singer who's horrible live.

I like the Dio Sabbath a lot, but I like Oz Sabbath a lot more. However, if Dio was one of the choices, I would vote for it. Holy Diver is amazing.

well the makers seem to know how to make a fun RPG

iam not saying its the best but in terms of score Pokemon games have scored pretty good if u have a RAB its a fun game to get

I once went to a place where they had a sign that said "No 'Stairway', no 'Sweet Child'." I picked up a guitar and started playing the intro to Sweet Child 'O Mine. No one said anything.

There is absolutely no metal band in the world that compares to Sabbath with Ozzy, but inversely, I don't think I could find an act which I hate more than Ozzy solo or H&H.

I love all seven Sabbath albums with Ozzy but I can find maybe a handful of songs between Ozzy and Dio that I can actually bear.
