Overrated (Actors & Actresses)

Don't forget Eight-Legged Freaks for Scarlett. That was her best performance. Stungun to the junk? Ouch.

Overrated, Jaime Foxx. Loved him in Ray, but I tell ya, it went straight to his head. When I see his name on a movie, i shrug and say "so?"

Adam Sandler and Jimmy Fallon, stop making movies. The same annoying jokes wrapped up in a different 90 minute package. I normally like that sort of thing, but not if they are involved.

Underrated:
Kal Penn, if you saw Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle and/or Van Wilder and you didn't laugh your ass off, you have NO sense of humor at all. The sequels to both of these movies should put him on the funny indian guy map.

I think angelina jolie is extreamly overated! The only good performance she had in girl interrupted but the rest of her movies are horrible. Another person i think is overated is Tom Hanks, I mean i like him and he is good actor but just a tad overated.

Everybody said Lindsey Lohan. Well, I'm next. She was okay in The Parent Trap...even if it was a Disney movie remade three times (It Takes Two was exactly close to the Parent Trap in my book, even if it wasn't a Disney Movie). Learn from Mara Wilson, it's better to stay out of the limelight and act like an ordinary teenager. (For those who are confused, Mara's last film was Thomas and the Magic Railroad or something like that deals with Thomas and The Tank Engine series when she was 13. Recently she was involved in a stage production of Cinderella. There's a recent pic of her if you look up at Wikipedia).

I don't know. For me, Lindsey's known for starring in teen movies and remakes. Parent Trap, Freaky Friday (another Disney classic done twice), and Herbie. Plus, she's slowly becoming like Paris Hilton. Only without the sex tape involved :goof:

Tom Cruise definintly. Any more Mission Impossible's Mr. Cruise?

I always thought the Olsen twins were overrated right after the Full House series ended. (They were fine Double Double, Toil and Trouble, and To Grandma's House We Go. Two of a Kind was okay for a while) but after catching a glimpse of their TV movies and seeing the trailers of New York Minute their acting fails to amuse me. Their story plots are entirely the same everytime. Fall for some cute guy, live with a single parent, and take wild vacations. Plus Mary Kate's anorexic issue is just bugging me since there are no doubt other actresses that are doing the same thing. Just that they're not getting enough coverage about it.

ITA. You can find many diamonds in the rough on TV today. James Marsters and Kristin Bell are great, as is Zach Braff, Alexis Biedel, Moira Kelly, Sandra Oh and the list just goes on and on.

Overrated: Angelina Jolie, who is only in the news so much because she's Brad Pitt's arm-candy. Or vice-versa.

Even more overrated: Tom Cruise. Enough, already. However much I love Jerry Maguire, anything after that's too much for me.

The subject of actors/actresses having thesame roles was brought up here and I just wanted to say that this is how I feel about Jennifer Aniston. Her movie roles are just like Rachel from Friends.

Tom Hanks is one of the most overrated actors out there. I do not find him ONE bit talented and he often plays the same schtick. I think what makes it more noticeable and bothersome to me is that he could get an Oscar for reading the phone book. I don't think they give him awards based on his PERFORMANCE but his roles. Whereas, Phillip Seymour Hoffman was underappreciated for YEARS and is only now being appreciated by the Academy. Now, I'm teetering off to a rant about Oscars so I need to be careful.I think people do that as well - like Hanks' characters and his movies and attribute that to him. Much like John Travolta I think it is GOOD LUCK and NOT talent.

i think Tom Cruise is one of the most overrated actors in Holloywood. don't get me wrong he does a great job at his chosen profession but what he does and how he acts in public so turns me off that i wouldn't spend money to see a movie of his.

seriously: Tom Hanks, he's just always there

and I have to agree on Scarlett Johansson too.... she's pretty good though, but how many times

ROCKSTAR - you should see it. And you're right, having an excellent cast to work with generally helps one be a better actor...except in the case of Keanu Reeves and Denzel Washington (and that horrid guy with three first names) in Much Ado About Nothing. The only US actor to hold is own in that film (and steal scenes) was Michael Keaton. Didn't stop the movie from being good, though - the fact the other actors were craptastic compared to the British actors.

And yes, I loathe actors who stay the same. Those you've all mentioned are just a few who don't really change. I don't want to see a film and think, "Oh, doesn't Actor X look good," I want to see a film and believe in the character.

:star:Scarlett Johansson, right now, I think is overrated (I'm guilty of it myself).

I always thought that Scarlett Johansson was a terrific performer. I mean, Ghost World, Girl with a Pearl Earring, Lost in Translation and A Love song for Bobby Long are among my favorite movies and performances.

But in Match Point and The Island I saw something I never realized before (though people always commented on it). She's getting stiff! The facial expressions are too rough and not that varied.

I love her, though. She did annoy me endlessly in Match Point and I'm still not sure if her character was supposed to or not.

:star:Ashley Judd, I believe, is underrated. She's natural and her dialogue rolls off her tongue with such ease. I liked watching her in Heat, High Crimes, Someone like you and Kiss the Girls.

Notice how her "strong females" have the dark hair? Nice touch.
