First off try and change the fluid. Use something that is made for that car because newer cars run hotter. How do you know it isnt a gauge error?.. does the water bubble when it "overheats"? Try that then if that dont work it has to be the fan. I have no idea if it has an electric fan or what but if it doesnt and its a clutch fan the clutch part of the fan is shot. Replace that. Worst comes to worst if it overheats so bad to were your scared to drive it, kick the a/c on and it will take the heat out of the motor quicker thus cooling it down

my car keeps runing hot i checked the water pump made sure the steel line runing from the radiator wasnt clogged put in a new thermostat and i dont think the head gasket is blown any suggestions please help it has the 2.3 quad 4

Recently bought a 94 grand prix for my step daughter that had a similar problem. The fans weren't coming on. She got in a hurry to have it fixed and took it to her "friends" to work on. They supposedly replaced the radiator coolant sensor, coolant temp. sensor (which is closer to the thermostat) but I don't know if they got around to the temp. sender that tells the computer when to turn on the fan/fans. they also said they checked the relays under the hood and never did get the fans to work.

You can hot wire one of the fans (or both) if you like but I don't recommend it. It'll take the car longer to warm up and it won't cool off as quickly when you turn the car off. Normally the fan/s should run on after you turn the car off in summer weather. This helps to bring the pressure down in the system more quickly and reduces strain on hoses.

what do you mean by "checked the water pump"? did you take it off from the car completly and check the fins/bearings? also, make sure that there is no air in your cooling system. open the bleeder valve with the cap off from the radiator, start the car and let it warm up. fill the radiator, put the cap back on. wait for pressure to build, when the car begins to show a steady stream of water from the bleeder valve it's done tighten it back down. Another thing might be your heater core on it's way out, i had that same problem with the 2.3. An easy fix is to take the two hoses off the firewall and connect them to eachother, but you will not have heat anymore!
