get over it

New member
I found out yesterday afternoon that an aunt just died and the
funeral is across the country on Saturday. I was planning to send
flowers, but Wife said "of course you have to go!" (I have a very
small family.) So I started checking airlines to see if that was
even possible. It's too far to drive.

Everything was $1100 or more. A "bereavement fare" would cut 20%
off of that and be a hassle because they want a death certificate.
Still too much.

So I tried Priceline; the same $1000 tickets (notice it's $100
cheaper) but they said I could save by bundling a rental car with
the flight. So I checked that out (remember, I'm flying with only 1
day advance notice) and I got a flight with a full-sized car for
$473 including all the taxes and fees and stuff. And I could have
got a small car $20 cheaper, but a full-sized might come in handy if
I need to drive my parents or something.

And the flight times they picked for me is better than any itinerary
available that could have booked myself. Who knew?

Haven't tried them yet, but we used HotWire for a hotel in Myrtle

in Sept. You don't know the name until you commit, but we made out
like
bandits. 69$ for the room per nite. It was a mini condo, full kitchen,
marble
tile, king bed, ocean front, and they had valet parking. As nice as
the
'Marriotts we have stayed in. Will certainly do that again.....it's
like an
adventure to see where you go, and they are all 4 or 5 star hotels.
Sorry about losing Auntie, hope your trip goes well.

KEWL! How do you pick a different return airport on Priceline? I
want SFO to Paris and Prague to SFO.

I don't know. Probably have to buy 2 one-way tickets. But I think I
did see a button there (or at Travelocity) for trips with 2 destinations.

I believe such an arrangement for the flights you describe, sf, is
called "open jaw" ticket. I 'googled' "open jaw flight" and there were
many hits. Here's one result that might be helpful -

Okay, thanks. I have no patience with sites like that so I'll put

Yes it did, thanks a million! I found articles by Rick Steves and
Fodors and I also found "cheap airline tickets to Europe". :) Always
looking for a bargain, but not willing to be shoehorned into an
airplane seat for so many hours anymore.

Okay, done with Priceline... thanks a million! The price wasn't any
better than anyone else (maybe a little more at $1300 ea RT) but we
got the airlines, the times and the seats that we wanted.

Tell you how stupid some folks are, McD's had a $1 special on 32 oz
sodas, while the mediums were regular price, $1.39, and some idiot in
front of me orders a sandwich and a medium drink.

Reminds me of my quandary with Aldi. I can buy a gallon of milk there
for less than the price of a quart at the competition, however a gallon
is more than I will use before it goes bad so I will end up tossing a
good percentage of it.

Some people would rather waste money than food, others would rather
waste food than money.

But with the McD's drink, the customer could merely put a medium's
worth of beverage in the 32oz large cup. Are you sure you're
comparing gallon to quart and not gallon to half gallon?
We buy about 4 gallons of whole milk a week at Aldi. It's a big
contributor to my excess weight. Right now I'm drinking 4 or 5 parts
milk to 1 part coffee, cold. Delicious.
