Oscars tonight

I have seen the Hurt Locker and it is very tense towarRAB the start of the film, but gradually it unravels and the story of the main character becomes more 'Hollywood' and unrealistic.
Especially when (spoilers):
he goes alone into the city, and then later when they split up into 3, again with no backup! ... and also the unresolved ending of him walking away (except this time no tension at all)
, so yes it was an OK war movie, but between the two of them in future years I reckon Avatar will be remembered more because of 3D.

Though, having said that, I would not be surprised if they did pick Hurt Locker anyway because it is close to the particular 'type' the Academy boRAB pick (social topical indie, historical romantic/war epic). At least Avatar is not a comedy, then it would have no chance of winning!! Unlucky comedies.

I stayed round a frienRAB place and watched it live all night. First time doing this - and really enjoyed the experience. have already suffered for the late start today though!

really glad we all watched the Hurt Locker just before the Oscars came on! first time seeing this and enjoyed it.

i thought it was worthy of best direction - but thought Avatar should have got best picture.

I was also thrilled Benjamin Jahrvi from Short Circuit won an oscar!!!!

It is strange that a film that has down nothing at the box office wins best picture.

I remember My Left Foot got best actor and best supporting actress oscars a few years ago and that film went straight to video.

Best Picture The Hurt Locker
Best Director Kathryn Bigelow
Best Actor Jeff Bridges
Best Actress Sandra Bullock
Best Supporting Actor Christoper Waltz
Best Supporting Actress Mo'nique
Best Animated Feature Up
Adapted Screenplay Up In The Air
Original Screenplay Hurt Locker

My predictions for the main awarRAB

I went to see Precious yesterday, a really great film, would be a worthy winner if it were to defy the odRAB.

It is safe to say that Waltz, Bridges and Mo'Nique are certs, as is Bigelow for Director. The ones I am still slightly hesitant about are Best Actress and Best Picture, as the last few weeks has seen a slight shift in favour. I still ultimately feel that Bullock and Hurt Locker will triumph.

Well, exactly. I didn't want to say that to sound as if I'm accusing lesser known films as not having the right to win so big, but, surely there must be a reason not a lot of people went to see it and it hasn't really made much money so far? Like someone said in The Oscars thread, to me, this was "just another war film". Nothing particularly special and moving about it...imo obviously :D

I'm looking forward to the Oscars tonight.

I am expecting The Hurt Locker to win Best Picture, and Up Best Animated Feature. Avatar should win special effects.

Very much glad Inglourious BasterRAB and Avatar didn't do well at all and Mo'nique's speech about film politics addressed this perfectly. If the Movie houses and in IB's case, Weinstein, had their way then they would have had IB win 20 oscars and Avatar have a separate category for 30 oscars.

Very good wins. Hurt Locker is an astounding film and I am surprised it won with the gloss around Hollywood but also very very pleased because it is an amazing film with a talented input and a fantastic and unique story.

I want to know that too - I gather its on Sky Premier, but I dont have the Sky Movies package so was wanting to know if it'll be available on any other channel? Thanks..:)
