I'm really please Ryan Gosling is up for best actor.

It's just a pity we won't actually get to see the film over here until April.

Not a bad list I suppose. I'm suprised a few films aren't up for the more high profile awarRAB, but it's nice to see a lot of "newcomers" up for high profile awarRAB as well as seeing a fair few veteran nominess up for another chance at an award.

Hmmm no dreamgirls for best picture? I havent seen the film yet but I thought that would have been a shoe-in. I think Little miss sunshine is unbelievbley overated I watched it on dvd and was really dissapointed after all the hype only funny character was the grandapa.

A good list with lots of talent on it. Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren and Judi Dench up for the actress really shows what good acting is out their. Mirren should easily win it but even so stiff competition from Dench, Streep, Cruise and Winslett.

Shocked no Dreamgirls for best picture, yet they nominate Little Miss sunshine!!

My Predictions

Best Picture: The Departed

Best Director: Martin Scorsese

Best Lead Actor: Forest Whitaker/Leo di Carpio?

Best Lead Actress: Helen Mirren

Best Supporting Actor: Eddie Murphy

Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer HuRABon

Delighted Kate Winslet got her 5th Oscar Nod at just 31!!

Does anyone know if there are restrictions in the entry for Best film? For example, I thought the best film of last year (or one of) was Pan's Labarynth. Why does it have to have to be in a seperate category of best 'foreign language' film? Why can't compete it against the main Hollywood blockbusters?

I really hope Winslet wins this year, although I believe Mirren will. Like soneone said, a 5th Oscar Nomination, and only 31. She deserves her chance this year! :D

I thought James McAvoy would have been nominated for The Last King of Scotland?

Each country gets to submit a film for consideration as best foreign language film. Mexico decided to submit Pan's Labyrinth. Perhaps that excludes it from Best Picture.

I think its great that it got a nomination anyway as it was a fantastic film. A lot of people were saying that Volver would get it over Pan's Labyrinth but that hasn't even been nominated (that was Spain's submission I believe) so hopefully that bodes well :)

You can't be nominated for both foreign language and best picture.
I think the producers entered it foreign category because it did'nt go on General release and would'nt stand a chance. Whereas now its looking good in this category.
