I just got my Orion XT8, and I've already asked a few questions regarding my problems seeing any particular feature or detail in planetary viewing. I was told that you should be able to see Saturns rings with the included 25mm plossl, let alone using a 3x barlow with it, yet Saturn just looks like a really bright star. I cannot see any rings. I do see a glimmer of a tannish color, but nothing more. Not even a disk like shape, that I can tell. Mars was the same way. I hear people talking about seeing the cassini division on saturn with my telescope, so why does it look just like a really bright star to me? I am positively sure that I was looking at both Saturn and Mars.
I have already done a checklist of any problems that could cause this. The collimation is nearly perfect on my scope. I do not live in a highly light polluted area. There is no fog or dew on my telescope. My eyepieces seem fine. Is my telescope faulty or deffective? Can you see Saturns rings with your XT8 (if you have one)? How well are you suppose to see it through the XT8? Has everyone just been exaggerated the product? Should I contact Orion Telescopes?
Any and all helpful answers very much appreciated! Thanks!
