Organic or "Regular"?

I love this discussion! I am more about organic than regular fruits and veggies; however I do notice that there are differences in the pricing. I tend to spend more at Whole Foods rather than the typical grocery store.

Fruits, veggies, and eggs are my main priority for organic. I'm really paranoid about cooking chicken, so I don't typically buy any types of meat. However if I did, I would definitely go organic because I hate the way animals are treated. Organic eggs are so tasty! I like them far better than regular eggs, and most of the hens are free range.

What I try to do is think of if the fruit or vegetable is covered. Things like apples, grapes, mushrooms, carrots, etc. are eaten skin and all, so they are more of a priority to me for organic. Bananas, oranges, cantelope aren't so bad because they have a covering :)

Organic really can be expensive but it honestly does taste better. And I'm a vegetarian so better tasting veg is a priority when I can afford it.

I'm really looking forward to working on my container garden again this summer so I can grow my own organic veg.

Organic! I find organic fruits and veggies taste so much better than "regular" I had organic mac and cheese. It was to die for!

Organic is definitely better...it's just usually more expensive...maybe when I can afford to do all organic then I will. I hear a lot of people saying organic is so much more healthy and actually helps you lose weight. They say pesticides and chemicals can make you gain weight.

I quite liked your garden! I love growing vegetables in the summer, and you know what... you can taste the difference!

Regular. I got organic bananas the last time i went shopping and they only lasted 2 days before they were all mushy.

I love organic sweet potatoe chips & other organic products! Too expensive though! So "Regular" for me :-).

Would like to try organic, but people say it just the same and there is no different. Plus these days organic does cost a lot to buy then the cheap brands. I just pick the best looking and smell right food. So it's regular for me.

I've been buying regular veg at the grocery lately because it has been too cold to go to the farmers' market--it really just doesn't taste as good as organic. And I notice that the regular stuff doesn't even have that fresh ripe smell that organic produce has.

Seems like it's more popular here in supermarkets then. I'm quite surprised about that, I would have expected you guys in the US to really be into those things :)

I shop at my local farmer's market to buy organic veg when I can.

The problem is that organic is so much more expensive that it can be difficult to afford on a budget. So last summer I started my own little organic container garden. It was lovely to have fresh tomatoes and cucumbers that I knew had no chemical fertilizers in them.

In fact, the container garden was such a success that I'm already making plans to enlarge it this year.

There are pictures of my garden from last summer on this thread: http://www.fanforum.com/f19/how-does-your-garden-grow-62841523/

So there's not much of a difference between regular and organic ice cream? I just saw some that's cheaper than some of the regular ice cream and I'm still debating on whether to go for it.

Even after three months, I still haven't made up my mind.

I am starting to really enjoy organic food now. I love it. I find myself at Whole Foods at least once a week to stock up on organic food.

My brother and his fiance shop at Trader Joe's. Yesterday I tried some Cliantro Salad Dressing, and it was yummy. I want to find out where it is (the one they go to) and go!

~+Yamiko - go to www.traderjoe's.com and click on locations. You should find one in or around your area. I live in New Jersey, and there is one that is about 20 minutes from my town! :)

Yeah, I'll probably try it out when I finish the gallon of low fat regular milk. Not exactly a good idea to waste milk after all. :)

random question: what to do with people who don't believe in organics at all? It's not even about if they can afford or not, some people think organics it's fake. i really have heard people saying it when i was shopping in the organic/natural isle.

I think generally at Whole Foods in the U.S., organic milk is almost $5 for a half-gallon--might be more like $4.85 or so. Soymilk may be a dollar cheaper for a half-gallon. :look:

Honestly, I just grab two half-gallons every time I go to the store without really paying attention to the price, because milk is an essential for me (I'm an avid milk/cereal eater), so my estimate on soymilk may be completely off. But I think my estimate on organic cow milk should be right.
