only fools and horses - the missing scenes

According to the amazon website reviews, the DVDs that have been released are supposed to be a complete mess in terms of 'cutting' scenes and lines out. Music tracks that are no longer there

The episode 'sickness and wealth' where Del experiences stomach problems:

The TV broadcasted version: when Rodney, Cass, and Albert are discussing Del's health in the pub - there is a simply red song playing in the background called 'it's only love'

DVD/Video version: no music in the background/simply red totally cut.

Still dont get why Rodneys slop scene in the rubbish bins has been scrapped.

there was no music being played while he was at the bins - so it's nothing to do with music copyright issues.

no bad language while he was at the bins either.

I dont have the faintest idea why this is a new cut??

the only thing I can think of is, Rodney says: 'I hate you Albert'

the line: 'I hate you Albert' (and the slop drop) might have been pulled out of respect to Buster's real life death.

I usually find that if i'm talking to someone about OFAH there is 1 particular funny episode that people seem to forget or have never seen. It's the episode called "The Longest Night".Del Rodney & Albert are held hostage in the store managers office in a Supermarket. As soon as i tell them what the episode is about they think i'm making it up.

Best get a refund...............flipping pains! why the heck don`t they leave things like the original that`s the whole reason we`re buying them?

The VHS releases were cut too.

All the video /dvd cuts are down to music rights .

Music has been replaced where possible but sometimes it's not technically possible so lines and scenes are adjusted / deleted where necessary.

Luckily the dvd's are not subject to the stupid PC of the BBC and UK Gold where slang names for foreigners are often edited out .
Both organisations seem to think that the public are too stupid to be able to watch these shows in the context of when they were made so many of the words used would have been acceptable at the time.

Unfortunately it would seem they are quite right about the public judging from the moronic level of complaints tv channels get.

The cuts to A Royal Flush are a different matter.

John Sullivan was never happy with the episode and they were still editing the show on the morning of transmission so it was rushed and there was no time to screen it for an audience.

In 2004 the BBC gave Sullivan the opportunity to edit it to his liking. I think perhaps it was time for new permissions to repeat it (it was reshown in 2005) and he refused unless he could adjust it.
Unfortunately the episode is pretty bad in either version with Del coming across as a complete tosser and out of character so editing it didn't rescue it .
20 minutes of cuts is bad . Viewers should have the choice.
The dvd/magazine run has the complete version.
That episode and another both had screenings for an audience later on so they could have it the same as the rest with an audience present .
Canned laughter is fake - and neither of these have canned laughter

A Royal Flush is uncut on R1 but I am unaware whether any or all of the cuts on the UK discs also affect the US ones.

Be nice to know

I too had read that the footage looking down to Mike through the trap-door was filmed when Lennard Pearce was still alive but I've just had a look at the scene on youtube and it appears that Albert's coat and beard are in shot.

Also in the episode mother natures son (peckham spring water)

on the TV broadcasted version: the song 'money' is being played, when Del, Raquel, Rodney and Cassandra, go away for the weekend and book a hotel.

but the video/DVD releases: have some sort of instrumental track being played, and is not 'money'.

also in the episode 'healthy competition' when Del is selling squeeky puppys in the market place, when the copper comes towards Del.

on the TV broadcasted version: the theme tune from jaws (the shark) is being played.

but the video/dvd release: has no jaws theme, and is replaced with a similar theme.

I remember in the episode where Del was preparing for his poker match with Boycie, Del lost a bet by predicting the next person in the pub would order a pint of something, and Boycie said it would be a short. The next person in was a giant navvy who, to Del's shock, ordered a dry martini and a slim line tonic. Del's comment about the incident back in the flat was something like 'Trust me to pick the only gypo weight-watcher in London'. When I saw this episode last, it had dubbed over (quite badly in my opinion), to '...the only genuine weight-watcher in London.'

Yeah I know what you mean, some of the statements made by characters are dubbed.

in the episode 'the class of '62' - Trigger (whilst sitting on Del's sofa, holding a photo) makes some comment about an italian kid, and that is dubbed also.

If somebody wants only fools and horses episodes in full (not cut) then you have 2 options:

-UKTV Gold, show repeats of only fools - that are usually totally uncut, and are full.

or - you can purchase the eps on DVD, but the magazine number edition DVDs, that came out every week - ebayers sell these constantly (and they dont contain many cuts) there almost in full.

and I can guarantee you that, because I have almost completed my set of those magazine number edition DVDS.

I can't recall where I saw it (may have been the OFAH website) but the edited version was screened for an audience which is where the laughter comes from.

There is no reason why the BBC would bother with canned laughter as it's not something they have ever used that I am aware of.

The same thing happened with Miami Twice although the dvd has both parts edited together.

Are you sure that is not Dels sheep skin coat that you can see?

The order from the shot below was Rodney on the left, Del in middle and Albert on right.

The above and looking down shot does not include Rodney but with Del on right and the white coat on left.
