In 'A Royal Flush', Del was supposed to be acting boorish and offensive at the dinner party. That was all part of his plan to convince the Duke to offer a cash payment for Rodney to clear out of his daughter's life. I think it could've been written better though, to make the audience more on Del's side. Maybe if the daughter had been more of a snobby character, and so we were willing Del to succeed in putting one over on her family, then he may not have come across as such a brute. But the daughter is written very sensitively, and so Del comes across as nasty in comparison.
Maybe a scene where Del tries to be on his best behaviour for Rodney's sake would've set the tone. And then, when he pops to the loo, he could perhaps overheard the Duke and his family/friends making fun of Rodney, and so Del starts to act the rude offensive sort to get revenge and take the Duke for a few grand. I think that might have worked better.
