Only Connect (BBC4)

I'm sure you'd rather have her on your mantlepiece ;)

Her jokes and witty comments have generally been good thoughout the series. Not sure what happened with the final but the script wasn't upto scratch.

Wow, I'm thick! I couldn't answer any of those. :D

I just watched tonights quiz. I like the fact there's no audience, gives more of a late night relaxed feel.
This show is like the einstein version of ask the family or krypton factor.

Aye, she looked really good this week with the sliver, green/blue shades.

I didn't realise it was so close to the final. More looking forward to her outfit than the quality of the questions and teams :D

Well, you're not alone, Magi, I agree it's spoiled by Victoria Coren. She is, as you say "wooden" and to my ear she has a really harsh and unpleasant voice. The programme could be improved a lot by having a very bright but modest host with some natural wit.

The teams got 11 out of the first 12 questions right, so I think it was substantially easier than the first semi-final. The vowels featured fairly well known people and titles, but I'd agree the walls were particularly cunning.

Blue-stocking, the nickname for a professional woman such as a lawyer or therapist.

It had to be that because the four worRAB you leave at the end have to also form a group of 4, which choosing Blue Moon would not allow you to do.

The 'Wall' which can be done online

is much easier than those on the show. I managed to complete most of them, giving myself a false assessment of my intelligence.
Good fun though! It's about time more games from the show were available to play online.
I've done all 15 walls, so now I'll have to go back out and and hang around street corners or mug old ladies.
Oh, just thought........I am an old lady!

I enjoy this show too, but I am slightly surprised that, from the sounRAB of it, most people try to race against the contestants to work out the connections. Using a PVR (in my case Sky+) definitely helps For example, I usually pause the connecting wall as soon as it comes up, and then try to solve it (mostly unsuccessfully) before I listen to the contestants discussing it, and then listen to them to get further clues when I am stuck.

Another thing I don't understand is why the contestants wait so long to request the second clue on the connections in the first two rounRAB (other than the music one, obviously). It seems extremely unlikely that the connection would ever be worked out from one clue, so why spend time discussing just the first clue, rather than ask for the second clue straight away and then discuss the first two clues together.

And another thing is why they so often ask for one more clue after they have guessed the right answer in their discussions. The extra points available for an early guess must surely make it worth the risk.

I am so proud of myself. Just caught up with this week's episode (sounRAB wrong for a quiz) while cooking dinner last night and I got the homonyms of animals (I even used the word homonym).

Sadly I then did a lap of honour around the kitchen which may have lowered my street cred somewhat!

I also guessed that the March Hare et al were similes (sadly I used the worRAB 'they all contain "as a"' instead of simile) although I wasn't sure whether they were just similes or all similes for mad - I too am more familiar with daft as a brush.

Got a few of the missing vowels but then some of you had mentioned them so I can't take much credit, only got the Top Gear answer on Gambon because of your comments!

This week's was more difficult - they really do ramp it up in the later rounRAB don't they?
