One-shot characters

2012(:

Many times in shows, particularly in ones with more stand-alone episodes there are characters introduced and then never seen again. Often the were just a break from the main antagonist, but sometimes there were memorable ones. This also extends to multi-part stories

Dungeons&Dragons:

The Nightwalker (City at the Edge of Midnight): this giant, creepy demon kidnapped children from all dimensions and enslaved them to forever hold back time. He was defeated quickly, but definately left you wanting more.

He Whose Name Cannot Be Spoken (Dungeon at the Heart of Dawn): Ah, that old favorite in action/adventure series. The master's master. The big bad guy's boss. His appearance was always a thought-provoking in the mind of the young viewer (granted the idea of a stronger, more powerful villian behind the regular one has become very commonplace in more recent shows). Venger's boss did not disappoint. A conqueror of many worlds whose very name was forbidden. That was just awesome.

Talespin:

Klang (multi-episode story): Baloo and Louie encountered this steel-jawed reptile while aiding a damsel in distress. It lead to a lost city with a terrible weapon. Baloo shot the great comeback to at him: "I hope your jaw rusts." In the end though, it was revealed Klang was just a snake in a robe (how did he use his hands?).

Can't think of any non-villian ones right now, but I'll go look for some. Any others that have carved a little place in the back of your mind?

Swat KATS: the Radical Squadron: season 1's "Enter the Madkat" introduced Lenny Ringtail, aka Madkat. The character was given a dossier and a profile during the show's bumps, and he was mentioned in the 2nd season clip show finale as if he was or was was going to become one of the Swat Kats' recurring villains, yet he never appeared beyond his introductory episode; "Enter the Madkat" was the character's only appearance.

More one-shots:

-The B short in the last episode of Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theater, "The Phantom of the Theater", introduced a new character named Mouser, who at the end of the short says he wants to join the theater troupe. Hello Kitty turns to the audience and says, "I can see we're going to have some wild times with Mouser!" But these 'wild times' never came: the series was never renewed for a second season, so Mouser's first appearance was also his last.

-Episode 5 of Marine Boy, "Amazing Shellfish", was the only episode to feature Marine Boy's mother, Lint.

-The Pixie and Dixie short "Jinks Junior" was the only appearance of the title character, Jinks Junior, the divinely produced son of Mr. Jinks.

Here's a few one-shot characters that are the best:

Marvin the Martian's daughter(Tiny Toons)
Sven Hoek(Ren & Stimpy)
Afganistan boys/home school kids/blue nun girl(South Park)
Eurotish/Goofball(Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends)
The Space Rovers(Road Rovers)
Ezekial/Chess Dragon(Aqua Teen Hunger Force)

Here's a few one-shot villains that are my favorites:

Batros/Evilseed/DarkDream/Plundorr the Spoiler(He-Man)
Armstrong/Commander Garlic/Phantom Blot/evil pig sorceress(Ducktales)
The Crystal Queen/The Demolisher/Frogman(Thundercats)
Darkwarrior Duck/Nodoff/Ordinary Guy/The Chameleon/Johnny T-Rex(Darkwing Duck)
Anubis/Avarius/Electronique/The Mathter(Kim Possible)
The Deadly Bulb/evil dolphin/Proto-Clown(The Tick)
Death/Dracula/Zalgar(Animaniacs/Pinky & the Brain)
The Tempiss/The Stinger/little black parasite/Government Guy(The Mask)
Roach Coach/Broccoli Aliens/The Headsucker/Femme Fatale(Powerpuff Girls)

just a note Evil Earthjim appered twice in the show once on his own and then with evill version of pete and the princess so I wound't extcly call h=im a one shot character

He was a 2 shot char in DBZ, but his reaction to Gohan was hillarious. Tao Pai Pai. When he saw Gohan in that Cell Saga ep, he freaked out because he thought that was Goku. When Gohan revealed that he was Goku's son, his reaction was priceless.

Demongo from Samurai Jack. He was one of my favorite Samurai Jack baddies.

Lala Vava from Dexter's Lab. She was suppose to be DeeDee's rival(But became friends at the end of the episode) and Mandark's baby sister. I don't think Computris(Mandark's supposedly robot brother in the episode "Dexter & Computris get Mandark") counts since the episode idea from a 6 1/2 year old. And Pierre & Lucky from the Dexter's lab episode "Accent You Hate".(That was one of my favorite episodes)

Speaking of Dexter's Lab, there was a character named Kee-Kee, who's fist (and only) appearance was in the season 1 short "Double Trouble" (which also marked the 1st appearances of Mee-Mee and Lee-Lee) Like the others, Kee-Kee looked and acted like Dee-Dee, except that Kee-Kee was a redhead. Although Mee-Mee and Lee-Lee would next appear in "A Tribe Called Girl" and would make other appearances, Kee-Kee was never seen beyond "Double Trouble".

I do. And he's right: Kee-Kee only appeared in that one short. In "Double Trouble", all 3 girls were just carbon copies of Dee-Dee; by the time of "A Tribe Called Girl", Mee-Mee and Lee-Lee were each given slightly different personalities, and by their 3rd appearance, they still dressed like Dee-Dee, but wore different colors. My guess is that the writers felt they didn't need Kee-Kee since Dee-Dee herself was already white, and Dee-Dee's 'gang' didn't need 2 white girls. (Or perhaps they just wanted to save time by having one less girl to draw!)

Wow. Perhaps that was just a sugar induced hallucination, then. I could have sworn there was a Kee-Kee in some Dexter short. Ah, well. Never mind.

Well technically 1 of 3 never said characters who were killed off didn't count when it came to one shot characters, so long as they only really appeared once. (Grimes was mentioned in a few episodes and appeared in flashback in "The Great Louse Detective" as well as his son Frank Grimes Jr who hasn't been seen again in the series either).
