Went in for the one month visit since the revision. The incision looks good. They had to take out 4 of the dissolving stitches that had managed to poke there way through. No explanation for the intense itching I have going on across the entire low back and into the butt cheeks. They told me to try Benedryl cream. I brought the mark from the TED socks to their attention, and I was politely yelled at! I should have told them right away about that, and my response was that everyone was told in the hospital. It has been 4 weeks and the mark is still there, all around my calf and there are parts of it that are really sore. I can drive in 2 more weeks-----yyiippeeeeeee!!!! Dr. also told me that I was suppose to stop the Celebrex 2 weeks after the surgery, and was to have started the bone stimulator 2 weeks after the surgery. I told them that they should have stated that in the discharge instructions, and that this was the first I had heard of these instructions. Next appointment is in 3 months and they will take x rays then.

I can honestly say that I don't feel any different than I did before this surgery. The nerve problem in my left leg is worse, and it is permanent. I now have started the same in my right leg. I am trying to stay positive and remind myself that it has only been 4 weeks---it takes time.

I walk as much as I can around the house and even walk outside as much as I can every day. I can only do stairs once per day----there are 21 stairs to and from our apartment.

I haven't been on too much, but have been in the background. Laptop is up and running, so now I can come on more often.

My daughter is bringing over 4 of my Grand babies tomorrow. Seems like I haven't seen them in ages. The baby is now 8 months old and crawls like crazy. Can't wait to see them.

Hope everyone has a good day and a better tomorrow!!!

Hugs and prayers to everyone.

Hi Pat,
Itching usually means healing. Let's hope that's all it is and that you can get some relief!

So what did he say about the mark from the stockings? Is he concerned?

I hope you're feeling a whole lot better by now. Keep resting!

Take care,
Emily

Hi Pat i do hope things get better for you. I also have a mark from the stockings it on the top of my foot and hurtd at times. It been 5 months and still there? I knw when we have surgery its just a chance we are taking wether we heal good or not and i dont like that cause i know i have a chance of the fusion not taking and all the pain returning. Like you are i was hurting with nerve pain in the right leg but i have to say at about 3 months it stopped. I really hope the same for you i know what the pain is like and i wouldnt want that for anyone.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Hi Pat ~

I bet those grandbabies have put a smile on your face.

I'm curious why you were told to stop Celebrex two weeks after surgery. Were you prescribed it after the surgery, or were you taking it before? My surgeon allowed me to take it when I was having a new pain that was not there prior to surgery, and I told them my "usual" arthritic joints were causing me more pain than the surgery itself. I've been on it ever since and really notice a difference when I miss a dosage or two.

Regarding the itching, it could just be a nerve reaction and will go away as the nerves settle down.

Hope you start feeling better soon. 6 weeks was the first turning point for me....not vast improvements, but enough indication that I was starting to feel better. Hope it is the same for you.;)

I will try to answer the questions that you all have asked.

As far as the mark on my leg, the Dr. does not seem concerned with it. Hopefully in time it will disappear.

The itching isn't around the incision....it is on the butt cheeks and up the back, around the incision.

The reason he told me to stop the Celebrex is that anti-inflammatories can hinder the grafting and fusing. Similar to the way the Ibuprofen does.

Didn't get to see my babies due to the severe rain storm we had.
go figure!!!

I wonder if the itching is related to nerve irritation. I have had a very annoying buzzing sensation in one area that my PTist thinks is nerve related. It doesn't hurt, but it's strong enough that it's very distracting and hard to ignore. Nerve irritation can do weird things.

Just my two cents worth...
