*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I didn't bring that up to tell him not to get it. I was bringing up what Nokia did in the past so that all the S60 newbs can understand. Seems a lot of people don't understand the difference between a Nokia "upgrade" and a completely new product. All this talk is all assuming there's a similar set of defects found with the N97 just like there was with the N95 and the N96. As far as we know thus far, there aren't, but it's still way too early.

I was just curious to see who's going to be pissed if any N97 defects prompt Nokia to do what they did with the N95 and if any of the newcomers were aware of their history of doing it.

That's true, but other than HTC's developer know the detail, other developers have to get and read the HTC's proprietary API to use it. The same API will not work on other the OEMs, so the advantage is very limited as most individual developers would rather go for the easy route to make the software that will run on all WM, rather than customizing it just a few HTCs.

I've been working on both HTC and Samsung, they use different API for acclerometer, rotation and etc, it's definitely not fun. The latest firmware of Omnia 2 doesn't even support Omnia's API . So, until WM 7, the usage of capacitive touch on WM is very limited.

`Ha Ha Ha'.....oh baby! this thread has been going on so long you outdated the n97 and it didnt even came out yet....... You guys just hang on to your money. ill buy the outdated n97. i like older outdated phones. :p

Yep. You are correct , now its been posted on the site for people who don't listen to prodcasts

Incidentally, the demo units at MWC varied in quality. The one I saw had the most recent software update and a more recent hardware build. Some of the demo units on the stand appeared to be running an earlier software version. There was enough of a difference that people's perception of the N97 could be affected. This just underlines how significant software has become to the overall 'experience' of a device. It's also one of the reasons we've held off on bringing you a N97 preview - though you should start to see more coverage in a month or so.
