*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

 Excitement actually isn't as high as it was a couple weeks ago, but that might be due to other events which seemed really far off then. Gotta order my 16GB microSD and pick it up will-call today. Then probably order Handy Taskman. What else is everyone going to install first?

That's the thing, besides the people here on HoFo or the ones reading Engadget or BGR (ie. the geeks), who really cares about the processor if the phone performs up to par? The girl in the video who said she wants to be connected to Facebook everywhere she goes isn't gonna care that the N97 is powered by a single-core ARM11 CPU, she probably doesn't even know what the hell that is LOL. After watching this video, I could see that this is definitely the market that Nokia is trying to cater to, the people who don't know anything about specs but will walk into a computer store and tell the salesperson what they need to do with one. It's sad for us geeks but it's true.

I won't even lie, I'm a fashion over function type of guy. I buy cars that have service and repair costs out the nose simply because of my love of style and forced induction. I'm a phone geek but I go with flash and flair over power sometimes. So do some of you because let's be honest, if the N97 had to look like the 5730 XpressMusic to get a faster processor, would you even want it?

Jailbroken or not, the iPhone web browsing experience is hands down the best among cellphones. Some Nokia phones do a reasonable job but they're not in the same league if compared to the iPhone. Not even kinda close.

Jonny i agree completely, i cant understand how anyone can say, aside from a bigger and nicer screen the 5800 is a excellent device, its a huge compromise for me also but i guess its all how we use the device.

I faced the same issues and browsing made me pull my hair out, the pages look great if you want to stare at them but trying to truly browse with any speed on it was a nightmare. :buddies:

Again, another post that adds something to the thread. This is why its 12 longer than the last time we logged in.

Just making the point that repeating information thats already been mentioned is worthless. What someone should really do(*hint - thread starter) is update the first post with all updated information that's pertinent. This way people only need to be directed to the first post instead of post#/page# and questions wont get redundant.

It's probably going to look the same as the 5800XM, only bigger, and will look worse and worse as it gets your fingerprints all over it. Clean frequently.

And yes, all of Nokia's artificial videos of the phone not only make the screen look nicer, but every angle of the entire phone too.

Darn, its so pretty.I guess i will wait a while, just got the n96 and plan to give the e71 to the wifey but if i get dissapointed by the n96 then i have no choice but to wait...

This is one area where size makes a huge difference. Tiny sensors only receive a tiny amount of light, then there is the tiny lens in front of it. People go gaga over XX MegaPixels when all you get is more noise if the sensor is still the size of a pea.

The problem with a bigger sensor is that it usually means more thickness for the device, especially if you want proper optics that can keep up.
