We got a chance to play with the N97 proto




Hardware is top notch .. feels really worth the price tag . But software was still old and not perfect as it was proto.

We hope to get a review unit soon. Will post soon.

This came from someone who got to play with the phone during one of the last S60 Meetups at the NYC flagship store. It was hard enough that he asked the Nokia rep if it was glass. Can't find a source as of yet, perhaps that member or anyone who has played with one at the NYC store can chime in. Not totally convinced until I see it in a review but I'm hoping that's the case now.

By the way, is it the general consensus in here that I want this phone more than anyone else?
 
Do you think that this keyboard distribution would fit fine in a mobile device?

a recent AAS podcast they covered very well nokia's declining smartphone s60 marketshare and what it all means and how it stacks up to RIM and apple. check it oot.
 
Has anyone noticed how the spacebar is not cnetered on the keyboard and is all the way to the right??? How the heck am I going to type on that since I have used many qwerty phones with the space in the center of the keyboard. Is that a euro/asian thing so it will change in the NAM version I hope. Other than that, I would more prefer touch capacitative for us americans instead. We don't need the handwriting stuff. I agree with some users that it didn't excite me much as I thought it would have with the htc 8925 looking phone. Guess I'll still be researching my next phone still for xperia, n96, n85, or htc touch hd.
 
Yeah I'll believe when I get a charge. That would suck if the black comes out before the white. lol. It must be because the greatness of the white with it's errant RF signal reflection and superior speed must be saved for last? :D

i keep going back and forth with these 3 options the Nokia n97, palm pre and the G1(unlocked, also heard they making a new verison of this phone also ). i am soooo confused :(

I tried to upgrade my N95-3 last night since the last firmware released in last May I think. I've heard there are new firmware for other N95 and expected I could get some new candy... and I was wrong, there is not new firmware.
I'm mad :mad:, does Nokia really expect people, after spending hundreds on the flagship, to go out buy their new phones within a year?
 
It get's the exposure any other widget gets. I don't want email on my front screen, the indicator icon is more than enough for me. I'm not sure how the ui is going to work actually. On my N85 I don't use the standby screen for much. Why? It's bloody slow to do something. Say the standby icons, click up 3 or 4 times to get to them, then click over 2, 3 times. I can fire off any application in the app menu with 3 key strokes on the numeric key pad.

The converse problem is pages on pages of crap, kinda like my mother in laws iphone. Ok they aren't widgets but after 5 page changes I'm kinda bored.

Widsets did a fine job imho of having a bunch of widgets. You have variable size and side scrolling for more. It seemed like Nokia's first experiment with widgets, and I wouldn't be surprised if you saw things change over time.

I look forward to my N97. I hope they have good and frequent firmware updates.
 
The privacy screen? It's mostly blank by intent, if that's what you're talking about. It's like hitting F11 or swipe-up on my Macbook Pro

Best part about the video is that it does appear that the kinetic/flick scrolling is spreading to the rest of the UI.... at least in flicking to the privacy screen, it did it faster when he flicked it faster.
