*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Exactly...I'm not sure, but I would speculate that the new relationship with Skype, which is supposed to be incorporated into the N97 in the fall has something to do with it..if you think about it, having the built in SIP and internet calling such as you can in my N95-1 renders Skype useless-they can't compete with it

Uh, the iPhone has an audience that it caters to. I don't want to get inflammatory in my description of what I think that audience is but it is best summed up in this comment I found at Engadget:

"The UI seems complicated, busy, and requiring too much configuring. Even adding top contacts seemed like a chore. Top contacts should be there automatically by default.

I'll need to see more, but it looks like the iPhone UI still wins."

See this is an example of an idiot. He'd rather have someone make decisions about UI for him than be given a choice to make whatever you want out of your home screen. He may not have any brain cells to determine what configuration is best for him and so he writes like a ****ing moron as he is.

I just contacted an Amazon rep via phone and was told that the instock date of June 25th only applies to those placing the order for a Nokia N97 from today and thereafter.

As far as those who had already pre-ordered, there is a N97 device reserved from the shipment that Amazon is to receive between June 4th and the 17th. So it appears that the delivery estimate on my order for June 5th through the 18th still remains valid at this point.

Yeah, but only 9 icons are displayed so you can't use the keypad to select something that isn't there. At least that's how I remember it.

Edit: nevermind, I just google searched some images of S60v3 menu and saw that there are 12 icons. I haven't used an S60v3 phone yet, so I thought it was still the same as v1.

I've never had confidence in nokia release dates

Exactly. I've met people with N-series phones without a single application on them. They then watch an iPhone commerical in amazement.

I get where you're coming from but criticizing Nokia for not including them in earlier models is a moot point, IMO. The improvements are here now(to stay, presumably) so enjoy them. :buddies:

Just my $.02.

I'm a little bit confused here. I thought that the N97 is a Quadband? Someone above here mentioned in their post that the N97 was a TriBand 3G. Which one is it? A Quad Band or a TriBand?

What, no Red-eye? Awesome!

I have to disagree. It's not fair to compare Apple's last years flagship 3G to Nokia's brand new flagship N97. Apple's new flagship, the 3GS, renders much, much faster than the 3G so I'd assume it's yet more faster than the N97.

Once you jailbreak you 3GS you can have limited flash support on iphone 3GS as well, granted, it is not as good as flashlite on N97, but it is something.

N97 cannot cut/copy/paste from the browser, only in text input fields, iphone you can cut/copy/paste anything.

N97 cannot pinch to zoom so you can fit the text exactly how you like it, iphone you can.

N97 resistive screen not as efficient and accurate to scroll through web pages, iphone 3GS capacitive.

N97 will not remember text input fields, iphone 3GS does so very efficiently.

With jailbreak iphone 3GS can download files from the internet too.

With jailbreak, iphone 3GS, very simple and efficient in-page-text-finder.

With jailbreak, iphone 3GS, text spell checker (the little red line under misspelled words and all), with suggestions on how to fix it.

While the N97 wins in screen resolution, the iphone 3GS wins in screen size, making it a draw in my opinion.

And less not forget, that the iphone 3GS renders the actual page more faithfully than the N97.

So yes, I have to disagree, the iphone 3GS is the hands down winner here :buddies:

This is what we know so far of the N97 camera: it will be [insert comment here] lol.

There's isn't much of a finished product... although those video samples posted earlier (here) don't seem that bad (Superior to my K850, but SE has never really been good with video), and there exist multiple examples of pictures taken on the web (inferiour to K850), but again, all were from prototype units

Not sure about all that but there may be some issues with the initial batch. I had the Blaxx N97 in my cart with both coupons but never pulled the trigger. Will wait and order later.

The OmniaHD is already out in europe and it's the same price.

What firmware are you running on the iPhone now? I haven't had a browser crash ever since I updated to 2.2.1 and I can even post on hofo reliably now.
If you're that undecided, hold out for as long as you can, because there will be a new iPhone this summer and 3 new nokia touchscreens in the fall, at least one of which I'm sure will be better than the N97.

Estimated delivery date for the white N97 from Amazon has been updated to June 5 through 18. The preorder was made on May 21st with one day shipping.

the price is going to drop substantially once the gsm pre, htc android phone, gsm storm 2, and iphone 3 is released.
Nokia won't be able to compete with mediocre hardware at that price point anymore

I was thinking something a little more mainstream, specifically in america ;)

Let's wait and see if the production models are built well. The N85 prototypes were better quality than the production models.
