*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I hope NOT :D
I still have my hopes up! As long as I haven't tried it myself, I can't criticize something. I've read good stuff and bad stuff about the keyboard so I'll reserve judgment until I play with it :D

Shouldn't be that bad then because they have a friendly return policy. Nothing wrong with giving it a go to see if it'll work for you.

Truth, I don't think the US store is up yet. I didn't see anything special to the ovi store in terms of apps, and there was a lot of star trek and lonely planet stuff in the media section.

True..but it would have been nice to "try and buy" instead of the other way around..it's not often I spend 5 benjamins on something I'm going to use every day, sight unseen

Yeah the scroll on the 5800 blows chunks. I do have to give credit in the fact that over the 8 months they've had since the 5800 launch they fixed what were probably the 2 biggest PITA things about the 5800: The scroll and the browser full screen behavior.

I'm sure you and I are aware of the 5800's shortcomings. The N97 will have the same old list. But now its a flagship so the problems magically fixed themselves. I suppose when you sell the same POS for $700 people believe it is better.

I don't know about it feeling like 240x320 but I guess they had to make everything bigger to allow finger touch. Funny how despite the landscape keyboard having twice the size keys of other contemporary devices it is still far less accurate and slow than said device. This pretty much happens throughout the interface.

@sr1329, back to your ol - but sensible - rants I see ;)

It won't be hard to put down the E71 if a developer FINALLY gives us the ability to Video Chat using the 3G camera for IM: AIM, MSN, GTalk, YIM, etc. I'd be SERIOUSLY PISSED if the iPhone x3 (3.0) supports this via iChat implementation. Somehow I think they'll do it and get it right the first time (MSN excluded until a small update 4mths later). This SERIOUSLY cannot be so hard to implement from a developer - and with the N97 tabletop layout its primed for this!

The cost of the N97 I'm deducing - from previous releases - will be WAY too High [ZigZag commercial style] for the first 3mths. Thus I'll be going after the N86 or hand picking the N85 if it drops more in price; I have a Mac to purchase next mth if all goes well.

Lol ... No you will not! You're going to be too busy enjoying real applications than you're used to from J2ME on SE. I've used all the same SE phones you have [W810, K790a, K850i] - 6mths or more each - and I'll never look back without smartphone device [W995 almost enticed me; for 4days]

We wouldn't know until the unit reaches the hands of everyone, will we? It's not like it's going to be a perfect, flawless release. Then again, it might be. If it is, it won't need firmware updates! :buddies:

1. price - by the time N97 comes out, N96 will be cheap

2. familiarity - some people will not give up their keypads and the OS they have came to know for a long time

price structure dictates a lot, to you price might not matter, coz you are a phone addict, but in the real and general world it dictates a lot! just look how the S40 is still striving...

which phones do u have now!!? lol

I just picked up a bold. and still have my iphone 3G.. i was THIIIISSS close to grabbing a NAM 5800 but something said NO in all caps. lol
