*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

i will keep saying it, the n97 is gonna perform, look and operate EXACTLY like a 5800, just with an added keyboard. and kinetic scrolling in the browser. that's it. everything else will be identical, including screen responsiveness and OS. i dont know why people are gonna eexpect it to be different.

So, despite my posts not having anything to do with the i8910, you're getting flip with me because of my AVATAR?! So we should also get riled up at liknsmak at trying to get us to buy an iPhone instead because that's HIS avatar???

It seems like you're slowly reading through the steady current of posts that was made yesterday and haven't yet gotten to the most recent page. Pay extra attention to what I'm SAYING and not what my avatar is mystically speaking to you. Some other posters fully understand what I've been saying and also agree, and it has nothing to do with any other specific phone.

Oh, and please tell me where you found hardware acceleration on this page.

All I found was this.

Random thoughts:

I believe many are up in arms about the processor and RAM (myself included when it comes to the RAM) because we Nseries users may not have the best phone -on paper-; many of us have had an N93/E90/N95 etc and now the only thing to truly look forward to has a slightly worse processor than other makers phones, not to mention other devices in Nokia's own portfolio. I think the removal of the 3D graphics chip was the start, and now we see that Nokia is trying to squeeze more money out of dated HW (5MP camera sensor, I'm also looking at you).

All in all, if the phone runs smooth and has ZERO issues with video playback and multitasking, I guess there really isn't much about which to complain.

Time will tell -

Agreed. I looked at the keyboard and thought "gee nokia, is that too hard to copy?" lol, it's not like that keyboard is innovative or anything either, I mean, HTC's been using slide out QWERTY keyboards for how many years now?

Maybe I should buy one and send it to Finland so their R&D department can see first hand what a good QWERTY keyboard looks like on a mobile phone.

As a tablet owner, I call BS.

I'd bet that there are more Android phones out there than there are N series tablets. And the upcoming slate of Android phones is only going to increase the imbalance.

If they simply had the option to adjust the width of the vertical scroll-bars, this would be a non-issue. Previous to coming to S60, I used WinMo - every touch screen device I had, I would increase the vertical scroller by a factor of almost double to stop me from busting out the stylus or having to grow a crack-nail just to select it.

Then again, those devices also had recessed screens and had very crappy physical implementations of resistive screens. Newer ones are exponentially better.

Also please don't take my comments as just slandering the phone, between the terrible quality of the N85 and now this i'm just frustrated that these devices get so close but don't hit the mark for me. I want this phone but I'm not going to settle for the same experience as I had with my year old N95.

If you used 5800 and you didn't like it... better give this device a rest and look to the Symbian Foundation and Maemo 5 direction if you are looking of buying a Nokia phone.

From the demos and videos I have seen it looks as if they are NOT pushing that hard at all. Resistive touch screens are getting a whole lot better.

Just check out the Impression or even the Eternity. The Impression is amazingly responsive for a resistive screen.

Hey guys, there's a interesting post on the conversations.nokia.com website on what makes a flagship device. You should take a visit and share your thoughts with them so they built a better product. Below is the link:

http://conversations.nokia.com/2009/04/20/what-makes-a-flagship-device/

I've posted my 2 cents below at that site:

By definition the device should be made of all the best that Nokia has to offer. The largest battery, best camera MP/Lens, best display LCD/OLED, best built material, everything the best a company has under 1 device, priced the highest and is never really intended to make money! That is a ?Flagship.? But if you want ?flagged-ships? you can always built plenty of ships one with the biggest battery, one with the largest display and etc..

Again, the Flagship is not a product to make money! It?s a product to show off how technically advance you can make things. A Flagship is built to carry a company?s logo proudly to flaunt the company?s technological capabilities.

Everyone who got the N97 for $500, please sit down for this post.

First off, it's not about the megapixels, as I've already expressed in my blog post. The quality of the image has nothing to do with the improvements that are needed. The point is that Nokia did nothing more than combine the tech used in the now $200 5800XM and the near-retirement N95 from 2 years ago and threw a HUGE price tag on it. I applaud those who were able to take advantage of the glitch, but the rest of the world is going to be stuck getting ripped off for what is essentially a 2 year old phone.

I know the OmniaHD is a non-starter for a lot of you because of the lack of UMTS 850, but that's not to leave out the rest of the world that can use the 900 and 2100 3G frequencies. For those people who now have a choice between spending $650 on an OmniaHD now or $700 on an N97 to come out in July given all of their differences, you can noticeably see where the money's going in the OmniaHD.

And Uxi, the difference with the C905 is that this is the first time we'll see an S60 phone use an 8mp camera with all of those features on a gorgeous capacitive OLED touchscreen.

Folks who would love to talk about OmniaHD, stay away from this N97 thread

Now back on to the topic. Check this comment on the sound quality from that Russion review link:

"The main point in the Nokia N97 - this is the sound quality. As a long-time owner of 5800 XpressMusic, I was very surprised when he heard the sound of N97 in the headphones. Significantly, about 30% louder, cleaner, more natural quality. The device plays wonderfully, it is the best music on the market without any offers. At least, it is such a subjective sensation."

My friend already bought two from this seller with MS cashback, only worry is that it comes from Singapore with no proper warranty and those ugly symbols on the keypad.
