*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Well I think if they pull off that communicator device with 2 touchscreens (looks like an E90 but the outside is a touchscreen and when you open it, the QWERTY keyboard is also touch-based), that would be pretty sweet. Then everybody who's criticizing this phone can have their innovation.

Hmmmm, come to think of it, that device would have 3 touchscreens wouldn't it? Cuz the 3.5" screen inside the clamshell would be touchscreen as well right?

Absolutely.. Log into the app store and you can even download it to that other iPhone free of charge. For that matter, you can even install it on an iPod Touch. My wife has all of my apps on her ipod touch.

QFT! Seriously, I never post the full 5MP images from my N95 since they are usually scaled down for web posting. And who said it's the same sensor as the N95? Just because it's 5MP? 5MP is totally fine with me and would be even better if they could reduce the noise in the current sensors.

LOL....I'm patiently waiting as well, but I really do want them to get enough widget software up and running before the release....i think that's going to make a huge difference.

On another note, weren't they suppose to release the E75 in March? Let's hope the N97 won't be delayed past June...

Do you guys think its worth it for me to buy an iphone and sell it to pay for the n97? I've been out of contract for a while now and dont mind signing a new one. Or is there a better phone to buy and sell for profit? Any problems like having to activate iphone in store? Are iphones still selling for 600 usd on ebay? Is this just a dumb idea even putting an iphone onto my account? Why am i asking this in the s60 forum? Lmao

Does that white/black have different illumination colors? I saw the black had blue illumination keys, wonder what the white one has? I do recall orange but wasn't sure if that was just a protype color or the real deal.

Well I just heard yesterday that RIM will be bring back BB functionality to Nokia, and I'm expecting an E90 update at MWC next month. N97 is pretty damn impressive, and if the BB functionality can be integrated onto an N-series, I'm going to line up.

But if not, Bold it is. This thing's kept me pretty happy and I've got no complaints!

And where have you been!? Havent seen you posting around here? I took a 2 week break too as I was vacationing

oh yeah?! My N97 is gonna be Made in Jupiter! The gravity on Jupiter makes my N97 have the best build quality! MIJ, eat it!

Sorry folks, I'm not buying. After watching the French video, it's clear that this is just a souped -up edition of the 5800. Did you notice the trouble he had getting the touchscreen to respond in various places? The whole device is so fiddly - you're constantly turning it back and forth between portrait and landscape to get something done, and the amount of finger travel over that big screen is excessive. From the user guide, it's evident that there's no word correction even in qwerty mode. What a letdown. Without scientific proof, I'll bet that my E71 does whatever needs to be done with half the effort and in half the time.

I'm aware of the superior specs - the camera, the big beautiful high resolution screen, etc. - but efficiency is where this phone falls down.

If Nokia can figure out how to fit a 3+" screen with the 5800/N97's resolution onto the E71's form factor with a physical qwerty keyboard while keeping the device pocketable, it will have created the perfect smartphone. I hope they're working on it.

^^^ Don't worry they will always survive man. Nokia will always be around. They sure as hell have a buttload of people ready to lap up whatever they defecate out.

You take an N95 remove the 3D acceleration and 3 years later put a keyboard and touch screen that sucks on it and the whole cavalry will line up for it.

What is this the 8th variation on the N95 we've seen? It never gets old for these people. Next year they could make another N95 with flip out clamshell and a whole bunch of people will pre-order the hell out of it. Then they'll make an n95 in 2011 with inferior N86 camera (inferior to a 3 year old standard HA HA HA HA) and people will still buy it because it will say the words Carl Zeiss and 8MP on it and it makes these people nearly soil their pants. Yeah wipe that smegma off.

What funny is all the former UIQ people who just came off dead platform lining up for the next dead platform (in terms of software share and mindshare - of course the writings on the wall, I've been hearing this Python, QT, whatever BS for years and NOTHING has ever come of it all). They suddenly think that because it's Symbian that it is the natural way to go from UIQ. Maybe they have an affinity for platforms that are on their way out of the high end.

Sure I too would love an N95 with a big 3.5" screen like the rest of you, but man I will not make the sacrifices that S60v5 requires me to make. Besides the N95 was great 3.5 years ago as a taste of what's to come in phones. It wasn't really meant to be the exact same **** 3 years later. If anything the software library again has shrunk to a fraction of what it usd to be with the FP1/FP2 divide and again with this S60v3/v5 divide. Can't find **** for software anymore. So what's the point of saying this is a computer? Apple Mac on its worst day had more software then this does now. WinMo is the computer, Pre is the PDA, iPhone is the browser/music player/developer's scratch book, BB is the e-mail/messaging machine. S60 is a watered down mishmash of everything; excelling in nothing.

As long as they don't look at anything else they'll be happy with the droppings from that big Finnish ***.

You should invite that person on that site to the direct informative place for WRT 1.1 coding.

Oddly enough is that the N97 has Flash 3.0 = Flash 9 support; while the N86 supports 3.1 for Flash 10.

i KNEW that the N97 is getting too much hype!!

Don't ANYONE here say that the N86 is better than the N97 else, SNtraders online will charge more for IT when sales of the N97 slump!

Just came back from the store.
First of all, the "White" one is available for purchase:

But it is not really white, but some kind of greyish white.
I'm not digging that color at all. I prefer the black now.
There is nothing wrong with the screen. I don't know what BG is talking about.
It is no iphone but it pretty responsive. The speakers are excellent and the browser is usable.

Now the bad news. THE KEYBOARD IS A STRAIGHT UP JOKE!
I can't beleive they put that excuse for a keyboard in their "flagship" phone.
It looks and feels like the type of keyboard you would see in a toy for an 8 months old baby. I am not kidding.

No doubt with time someone might get used to it but, Come on!

I loved the camera, here is a pic I took with the phone:

My advice? Try it before you buy it.
