*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Honestly I don't care much about the clock speed. But I do care about the performance. After seeing how iPhone renders pages.. I expect any phone to be as fast as iPhone is. Is that too difficult to replicate? I high doubt N97 can be as fast as iPhone. I don't mean to lead this thread to iPhone vs N97 ;)

I am only waiting on better cam/video on iPhone 3.0, if apple doesn't do that I might get N97(not at $800 mark) as cam/video are important for me!

Its only a matter of time for Palm to release GSM/3G version of Pre.

@Uxi: I'm very surprised you're not on an AT&T plan to get 3G. I've been on Edge with my 95-1 since 2 years..my area got 3G about a year ago, and this is my 1st experience on 3G (other than Euro trips with my N95-1). To me its a no brainer-switch to AT&T. The family plans are good and unlimited medianet is only $10/mo on the family plan

Step in the right direction, but I won't get too excited about it just yet and the next revolution of phones is just starting. It would be naive to think this ends up as phone of the year for 2009. Alot more is coming...

The UI is cool, but I'd hate going through a number of menus just to function a simple task. And since it is resistive touchscreen, I wouldn't mind a stylus with it and multi-touch seems out of the question.

At the end of the day, Nokia knows how to build a phone with great all-around features. All the useful apps, the distribution, and the UI is what I'm more concerned about. Wait until the "wow it looks so sexy/freshness appeal" wears off in 6-8 months no different than what happened to the X1 and the "panels" gimmick. At least the N97 caught my fancy far more than the 5800 ever did. And the battery is packed with 1500 mAH.

Is the N97 codenamed Eitri?

Wow, Amazon preorder price is 600$...I'm wondering if I should preorder... I got robbed by Nokia on the $500 glitch...they declined me without reason .. :(...I think I'll wait a little bit around the beginning of June then jump...hopefully amazon price will decrease by then....
Do you think Amazon price will be even lower if I wait around July-August?

Up until s60v5 WRT was basically useless. All you could do is web actions, fetch rss, most normal javascript type activities, but you could NOT access phone features like the call logs, location data, contacts, calendar, etc, etc. The list still isn't very long sadly, but you have to start somewhere.

The 5800 (and N97) have added all these functions which makes it much more interesting. Everyone on going on about how you program the palm pre with html+javascript+css, this is what WRT is. The widgets on the home screen of the N97 will have more power than in S60v3, and hopefully since it's good for something now we'll start seeing apps.

Ya, in fact their was a whole THREAD

China or Finland does NOT make a difference, all the parts inside the phone are Made by Nokia and pay less for labor to Chinese/Koreans.Simple as that! Remember Finland made n85 Euro variant? keypad popped out.

The only negative point of 'Made in China' Nokias are that it's tough to convince non technical and inexperienced buyers online/ebay that it's authentic Nokia, but now people are getting a grasp of it. Just buy from good seller!

the phone is supposed to launch in june. its pretty hard to tell from the listing if theyre fake, but many of them say nokla, not nokia. just pre order from nokia or a reputable dealer if you dont want to get ripped off.

I just noticed that too. Now for a second round of speculations:

Could it be that those of us who preordered through nokiausa.com (without the ability to cancel, #$^@*@$@'ing morons they are  ) and thus got rewarded with a $100 higher price tag, incl taxes and shipping, would get a earlier ship date?

And anyways, about that outdated discussion, come on... The N97 was outdated the DAY it got announced... The problem is, you will NEVER see a mobile device for state of the art technology. Like seriously, you're gonna tell me nobody can come out with a phone with OMAP5, over 2GHz, 1GB RAM, video accelerator, and 16 megapixel lens? Of course they can do it, but they never will. It's all about money. Technology advancement and research is of no importance to anybody... They rather squeeze every single penny they can out of their outdated technology.

And don't come to me saying that a phone like that will cost 3000$. If everybody would stay updated with state of the art technology, production cost everywhere will get lowered.
