*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

im trying to figure out if its worth selling my xperia. ive been pretty disappointed with the build quality from my past nokias (including the e71 ((dust got in the screen))

It will get slower with use? LOL Why install ram sucking apps? It will not get slower if you know 'how to' use it. Most people who will buy n97 wouldn't even know abc of it's hardware/cpu, heck most people don't even know what cpu stands for, they will see performance.

I don't think I can continue discussing this with you if you haven't used an N95 to compare your N85 to. That's the whole point of the hardware acceleration advantage.

Of course Opera Mini doesn't give you any problems. The app compresses websites for your phone! It's absolutely nothing like handling the full page natively on a built-in browser!

As I've said numerous times before; I don't think the internals of the N97 are going to be INsufficient for most tasks (though some, absolutely). My point is that adding a faster, power-saving processor and double the RAM would certainly have been better.

Oh and yes, refreshing the music library can use plenty of resources. It used to take ages on older devices (not due to the speed of the card). It seems Nokia has done something different in the way their S60 phones search for music now instead that significantly speeds it up.

stop it with the pre-orders already!!! lol, there's a N97 Pre-Order threat, and a NokiaUSA threat opened recently, go there and spam your anger for losing 10$ or 25$ or 50$ or 300$ :P

Since almost everyone in North America has a cellphone, all the carriers can do is market themselves and the phones they offer in a manner where they encourage people to switch to their service. That's why you see so many people jumping ship and ECFs coming down in price. IMHO

AFAIK, the only reputable seller currently selling (and has them in stock) is Clarivue. Was hoping Martin Fields would have theirs available already, but alas...

I HATE sites that force you to WAP sites with no link to the full site if you wish. Yahoo does the same crap.

As to the com/net/org I'm not sure that it is. Doesn't matter if you use the www or not. It doesn't show up until you hit the last 'dot' in 'dot'-com and I feel it would likely take me longer to remove my hand from the device and touch the one I want versus just leaving my thumbs on the keyboard and finishing the URL. I may like it better on the device.

This phone supports TV-out and every phone that supports it in Nokia's lineup has TV-out cables(AFAIK) so I'd assume that the N97 includes them. To omit them would be asinine, IMO.

Boy Genius Report is pretty bad too. I loved their impressions post about the N97 that said comparisons with the iPhone needed to stop because the phones aren't in the same class then Zach Ipstein went on to talk about the iPhone in about 80% of the column. LOL

I got my dummy/display N97 today and played with the real one as well.

Without doubt, the dummy display is a poorer built & feel compare to the real thing. However the dummy N97 recreate the tilt slide quite accurately and it's a joy to play with the slide mechanics on the dummy device.

Guys you should really get one to play around & fill in the wait time. It's a cheap $10-12 preview for those that have not seen the real product. Once you play with the slide mechanics you'll be hooked on it.

I saw people talking about the home displays. The logic behind not putting anything on one of the screen is 2 points.

(1) It's intended to hide your current activity. [ie. if your at work and you received an embarrassing message from your friend; and you see your boss pass by you can do a quick slide to hide that; and also hide the fact that you're slacking off]

(2) Some people just want a big screen to display something of their interest with no clutter.

For those that want a 2nd set of short cut, remember that you can always press the menu key and bring up all the apps on the root menu.

The active home-screen is created so you don't need to even press a button to get the latest updates on things you care about. [ie. you can look at the phone rather than click on the app icon to get the latest weather, news, message and etc...].

And of course, if you don't like something, there's most likely a developer out there that had created a app that would solve your problem in Ovi.

Btw, does anybody know if the N97 will have a flashlight...? That is one of the only features that have always impressed me with Sony Ericsson, specially with the K850, such a powerful light :) i will miss that light...

Apple's is even easier to ignore, as pointed by jonty, with any of a few JB methods. Ergo: any reports of developers abandoning S60 have nothing to do with any piracy, but instead have to do with marketing and business concerns. Predators go where the prey is at.

guys something else to keep in mind, the phone is not going to show up on amazon.com 2 months before the ship date! phones (ie, E75) usually show up on amazon.com 2-3 weeks before they ship. Something to consider :)
