*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Coding only does so much to hide this though.

I'm reserving final judgement for when I have the phone loaded up with the apps, files, and skin I want because videos only show so much, but there's not a doubt in my mind that the transitions and the browser could have been much more quality with a better processor.

I've had touch pro for over a month, and currently using X1. As someone who used both phones extensively I must say that X1 is better than TP in almost every way. Screen is a lot more responsive. TP felt much more laggy. Hardwarewise X1 is built better too. TP on the other hand had a nicer keyboard. On X1 I feel like I have to press hard on the keys.

June 2nd was the ETA for the distributor to get them. Figure another day or two to get to retailers and then the shipping method to the endusers. One would hope that NokiaUSA would have a direct line from the factory, but past history doesn't bear that out.

Ahhh yes, the N98. I remembered when someone photoshopped that one up. The part I really loved is the fact that they say the phone is only 15mm thick, however, it has a 5x optical zoom, Xenon flash, a battery big enough to support 300h of standby and 4 hrs of talk time, yet only weighs 120g. I think the laws of physics, time and space would have a problem with that.

Try doing it on a motorcycle.....Just reach up and tap tracks or change volume or take a call or make a call...while listening to GPS voice directions. Never needing to see the phone. I got spoiled with that operation with my N95 and was suprised the 3Gs could not do that fundamental thing. That was one of the deal breakers for me...the data cost was the next....3X my N97 data cost..I find that incredulous!! Especially since I get the same data and am downloading widget updates and email to the home screen all day long!!

Yes they do that, sure. They've done it with iPods since they came out. They do it with Mac OS X.

But in this business the competition won't let them pull that kind of thing anymore. Most iPhone users don't even use a Mac.

I won't deny there isn't an element of jerking around the customer here, but Nokia is master of that art. Here's the same phone with a 3.5mm jack but we took out wi-fi. Which do you want? Changes in S60 software have been there in certain very narrow areas. They improved access point 3G to wi-fi switching. They added transitions. They brought a new vertical menu. They added OTA update. Granted they had a lot in the N95 and FP1 already.

The point is that while 1.0 and 2.0 are minor in terms of differences. 3.0 is going to have support new hardware and the new capabilities it brings and the attempt to catch up to actual smartphones.

It is true that they could hoard all the good stuff and they are guaranteed a certain number of guaranteed fanboy sales. That's how the Apple machine works. Nokia does the same thing to lesser extent. But I don't think they want only that niche market they have for their PC OS on their consumer electronics side. I think they go for a larger lowest common denominator there.

I am looking forward to this phone and hoping to replace my N95-3 with it, depending on cost of course. Unfort I will have to wait till the nam version is out and who knows what will happen by then.

He is actually the one one here that's making sense, lol. Yes everybody knows that sex sells... but everybody should realised that it SHOULDN'T. In this case, I honestly do not care if Angelina Jolie or Rosie O'Donald (whoever you spell her name) presents this phone. All I care about are the characteristics and features of the N97, that is what I am interresting in. If I wanna see Angelina Jolie, then I should google HER, if i wanna see boobs, then I just go see my girl, lol. Come on people, sex shouldn't sell, don't let it overcome you.

That's exactly what i'm talking about. People have been brainwashed into today's society. You are thinking the way the Media wants you to think...

As opposed to the harsh rigid corners of the N97 ...............

The TP2 looks to be a solid device. It has some positives over the N97 and the N97 has some positives over the TP2 IMO.

A user states that he was able to get some Nokia reps to confirm that it is an ARM 11 processor. Althought they were hesitant to give them any more info (speed, etc) beyond that.

I called as well and they gave me the July 1 story! I hope you got a rep speaking the truth. My rep told me that the versions at the Flagships are Euro. I didnt feel the need to argue with her. Looking forward to my tracking number and overnight delivery! :clapping:

I keep forgetting that one of the main reasons i'm having such a good time with this 5800 is because i'm using my thumb nail. Gotta remember to stress that when i'm pushing s60v5.

I think we should wait and see, its getting kinda tiring hearing these speculations and trumping up other devices that in the end aren't as good as we trumped them up to be Ie: xperia, g1, touch hd, touch diamond and all the others and now we waiting on the palm pre saying its the second coming when no one even touched the device yet, even the iphone 3.0 the 1 thing we know is the touch will be great but what else are they adding hardware wise, so when they come up then lets debate. :buddies:

definately not a phone setting. however the edge handoff is kind of hit and miss...if the phone is actively transmitting then it will boot the call to voicemail, but if its not transmitting at the very moment then itll put the edge connection on hold. i still use my n95-1 and it happens all the time.
