*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

The SDK's browser is still clearly unfinished. When you go to youtube, it brings you to the mobile client, when you click to go to desktop mode, it says your browser needs flash. I forgot to try espn though. I really cant wait for Opera 9.7 though.
 
people here complain about "light leaks" and the slider being slightly wobbly..

the N95 takes falls and bumps well....

my 6290 was a tank, I could've killed people by using my N71 as a blunt object...

Nokia's have great build quality, people here just like to complain about meaningless things...
"if I pay $XXX.XX it shouldn't get dust on the side or creek"...
no, it should keep working when I'm running for a train and it falls down the escalator...
or when it falls out of my pocket while I'm at work and hits the concrete of the garage....
 
i'm very very impressed with those low light pics. i dont care if its better lens hardware, or better noise reduction software, but for the purpose of having a camera with me while out at the bars, its perfect. all i want are decent pics that can actually be seen without blur. i'm totally impressed:D

i also noticed that there is kinetic scrolling in the ovi store, which has me confused. is that same as browser? or is it a special ovi store app for n97 only?

also i noticed the check mark in gallery for marking multiple items. yeah.
 
I was watching a youtube video of the n97, and I couldn't help but notice, where are the stereo speakers??? :befuddled :befuddled :befuddled :befuddled .
 
I think more of my communication will go back towards text messaging, phone calls and IM rather than email, I'm keeping my E71 anyway. However, there are a lot of things on Eseries devices that I'd love to see on new Nseries devices (the calendar from the E71, the Nokia Messaging client from the E75, one-touch keys [or just configurable shortcut keys]) however, I think the lines between Eseries and Nseries have already been blurred enough.
 
I don't think that anyone buying the N97 will be too concerned with the onscreen keyboard. To me, anyway, a device that offers both touch screen and hardware keyboard doesn't require the same touchscreen capabilities as a TS only device. If it's done well, it combines the two to make a very solid device. Whether the N97 succeeds at that remains to be seen.

As to the 5800, does it have the same experience as a iPhone? Clearly not, but at half the price, why would I expecrt it to? I think it delivers a solid feature set for a phone in it's price range.
 
I believe this is the same issue experienced with the release of the 5800. Nokia had a similar promise for people that preordered, yet others had it prior to the NokiaUSA customers.
 
I like finally seeing them do some new stuff rather than doing the same widgets and web browser. I'd like to see the actually send and receive/reply to an SMS or something though. Both through the touchscreen/portrait and with the QWERTY.
