Because the images of the phone are already out there, meaning, just like any Nokia image leak, the phone isn't too far behind.

And the samsumg seems to already out-spec it, and it looks really nice to boot.

But that's not the point of my comment. All I'm saying is that Nokia is making their products irrelevant by:
- announcing them early on and releasing them so far after. They build momentum, then nothing for 8 months lol what a way to run a business. You don't think other manufacturers are working on cool devices, and won't announce them in the coming weeks and actually make them available? How many $500 phones do you want to buy in the next 6 months?

- announcing rehashed products, with a shiny lid on them. N95-1, N95-2, N95-3, N95-4, N96, N85. Pretty much all the same. Did we really need 4 N95? Nobody was fooled (OK, some where) by the N96 and by all accounts, the N85 had crappy QC.

I have a E71, best phone I've had in a while. Solid, no nonsense and quick phone. It's my portal, and i love it. But then I look at the E75 and the postulated price, and I think to myself: Nokia is out to lunch if they think that device commands close to $600 at this point in time. They are completely oblivious to their competition it seems. And their own products, like the E71.

It's funny how Nokia and Nikon are on two different ends of the spectum. Nokia announces something 5 months before it is scheduled to launch. It plays it cards fairly loosely. Nikon on the other hand is a vault, most people don't know what's coming out next and are anxious because of it (should I buy XYZ or are they planning on replacing it?). Products are leaked a day or two before product launch. Their supply chain, end to end, is air tight.

Anyhow, off my soapbox for the moment. Criticize me all you want, doesn't really matter. I'm just another consumer that has no vested interest in Nokia. Them be my thoughts. Oh, and I also agree with Prom 1.

i will pass on this phone and unless i can get it for 500.00 i will be waiting for a capactive screen from nokia later on this year in the meantime i re ordered my nokia e71 which will easily hold me over.

explain n96? n85? 3d? high end? speed?
all no.

3D in n97 i doubt it.
speed on n97, i also doubt it. the gui will be fast enough, but when you got apps you want to run, i think they dont run so fast.

I don't feel bad getting the N97 because I'm moving up from a cheapo Nokia flip phone that I've had for the last 3 years. I already own the Samsung Eternity and I like it, but it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that the N97 has. I would never spend $700 for any cell phone, but when the price on the N97 dropped to $454 plus tax and shipping, I couldn't resist at the low price, so I ended buying it together with the 5800.
I mostly like the N97 because of it's huge 3.5" inch screen and its ability to be used to access the internet. I need a phone which can act as a mini laptop computer for internet usage whenever I'm anyplace where there isn't a computer. That's mostly the reason why I preordered the N97. The huge size of the screen, the flip-out QWERTY keyboard and the ability for internet usage is what really made me get it. I don't care about having huge RAM or ROM memory. I think that the N97 has plenty of memory in it for using the internet, for music, for watching videos and for playing games. The N97 also has everything that I want in a phone and it's a big step up from previously owning a regular flip phone. I consider the N97 to be the top of the line among all phones. I also believe that the iPhone is not in the same category as the N97. IMHO, the iPhone is one step below the N97 and more like a BMW while the N97 is more like a Rolls Royce.

I never really noticed the problem with the homescreen showing thru apps because I haven't used Google Maps much yet but sure enough I tested it today and not only can you see the homescreen but you can touch stuff too LOL
