*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Because it's not an inferior phone just because the clock speed is 166MHz slower than an XpressMusic handset that can't perform half its tasks. It's not inferior than an HD device built by a manufacturer who has been building crap for years and can only get away with it because Motorola and Sony Ericsson are competing with one another to see who can destroy themselves the fastest. As long as the Palm Pre is a CDMA handset, it doesn't even deserve mentioning in this conversation.

hey guys, i just called nokia customer care, and she put me on hold and spoke to a supervisor. she told me that the black n97's should be shipping out tomorrow, but the white one is showing up as backordered, but that they're expecting those any minute (according to here, definitly sometime this week) and will ship out as soon as they're in. take it with a grain of salt obvious, but she seemed real sure :) and this makes sense considering the flagship stores are getting them in stock tomorrow

hahahaha, i cracked up when i read this, I will faint as well if true. I quickly flew thru the last posts in here, or maybe I should've actually read them, but no mentions of SN Traders? They got the N97 NAM on the front page now
"Expected Price $550 USD aprox (Before Shipping)
Expected release date 3rd week of june
Coming Soon !! "

(Btw, I don't know when you leaving Blaxx, but happy b-day in advance! Hope you have a blast ;) DR would be the ONLY thing that will keep my mind OFF the N97...lol)

i think for those folks who will be buying the N97 because of the keypad, you will be dissapointed!

you better take it for a spin 1st or make sure you are buying from a vendor with a good return policy...

the keypad sucks! naft said!

i going to say we all should of seen this one coming.. i remember an announcement a while back when Nokia showed off their first touch screen concepts there was one that had the "N97's" form factor where it was touch with a slide out qwerty keyboard. going to try to hunt it down on youtube now that ive read this post.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ynNc3SQilg&feature=related(that phone in the lower left hand corner)

Either way this IS hudge. Thanks Apoc !! cant wait to see some real pics

The "Out-of-Memory Monitor API" Nokia has in the N97 SDK (and apparently unique to N97) interesting in this regard:

"Out-of-Memory Monitor API, which provides methods for applications to quickly reallocate memory blocks or register themselves with higher priority — thus preventing the shutting down of an application running in the background when the device’s available memory is low."

Search and you will find, i had garmin on my n95-4 internal memory as well as on my 16gb card no on my n85 you can transfer it you just need to research. :buddies:

Nice! I hope hope hope we will get ours shipped then. I have a baby due June 11 and would like to break in the camera on my new child. :D C'mon Nokia, hook me up. I could be great advertising!

Hey, occasional gaming is very important to me. Of course I'm not a hardcore gamer so I tend to play oldies and some puzzle type games. I hope, and if anybody has experience on the 5800 please chime in, that at least two games work flawlessly on the N97, "Age of Empires III" and "Frozen Bubble".

Ha ha! The videos I've seen of are of a polished device I wonder if they might bring it out like March/April. However I remember seeing some nice N95 videos and they took their time with the release.

Not really. Look at the N8x0 tablets. Even if it was a 600MHz CPU the phone is still released with Symbian and there's no community interest in porting Linux to this phone. Was this everyone's hopes? The N8x0 started with Linux and there's a decent set of apps, but nothing that can make it replace my Symbian devices. Movie playback works better out of the box on my N95, no PIM on the tablet and still really no PIM despite the community complaining about it.

I agree Linux on cell phones, or even Symbian Foundation once open source, is very powerful. But I can't believe that there are this many people that are pissed off because the N97 carries a 434MHz ARM11 because there was some expectation of people waiting in the wings to port Linux to it. Hell, even if it came with a 600MHz CPU you still wouldn't see anyone do any porting and you won't see it on any of Nokia's other 600MHz devices.

It looks to me like kinetic scrolling is up to the developer to implement. The twitter app for gravity does have kinetic scrolling but other apps are just normal and the phone menus don't even have a method of scrolling other than dragging the scrollbar or holding your finger and waiting..
