I'm not too worried about the lack of 3D hardware. From what I've seen with recent videos of the N97, they have it running incredibly smooth. Even I didn't expect transitions for the screen rotation but if you keep up with the designer's video blog and watch him using it, there is a pretty cool animation of all the icons rotating.

No, I wouldn't be really. I'm just surprised that all of the people that A) know how to get to a mobile forum and B) bought the Orange branded i8910 have no idea what they're doing with it. I thought at least one hardcore S60 fan would have been able to come through to talk about it.
Most notably and relative to the uses of other peoples has been the speed of processing images with the camera. Since Nokia started fitting their Nseries devices with 3.2mp sensors and higher, having to wait for A) the camera to start up, B) the camera to focus, capture and process the image, and C) the camera resetting for the next shot has been something that always has room for improvement for some time. Since the N95, the speed of the camera has only marginally increased overall in the newer devices, none of which are nearly as close to the performance of a standalone digital camera, which I thought we were all trying to replace with these devices in the first place. The only people that don't seem to have any complaints about it seem to be the people who have never used S60 before to notice that performance has barely changed over the years of device and firmware upgrades.
For me, GIF performance is another indicator of how well a CPU fares with the rest of its hardware. I keep a set of funny pictures on my phone, a few dozen being animated GIF files, none of which play at their original speed. The fastest I've seen them play on any Nokia device, though still not nearly as fast as they would in a desktop browser, is on the 5800XM. From what I have seen thus far, the OmniaHD plays them back just as fast as IE8, and I can't wait to see if the N97 can do the same.
Another example is gaming performance, and anyone with both a 5800XM and an N95 (of any flavor) in front of them can see for themselves. Playing Global Race (originally for the E90) on the N95 delivers a smooth playback with responsive controls and makes the game pretty addicting. Playing the same game, specifically adapted for S60v5 without hardware acceleration makes the game jerky and if you play it long enough, it lags to an unplayable level. Playing other Ngage games yeilds similar results, though this is one of the most noticeable instances.
Those are just the first few examples that come to mind, though there are a dozen other resource-intensive things that can be done on these devices that would seriously benefit from double the RAM and a next-gen power-saving processor (opening larger web pages, editing video, rescanning the music library :lol:, etc.,). Aside from all that, normal menu navigation has been -fair- on most phones with the two polar extreme exceptions being the lightning fast E71 and the I-Can't-Believe-This-Is-A-Flagship N96. Even this though has taken a noticeable hit in speed with the removal of the dedicated hardware acceleration, as noted by myself and the girlfriend who uses her phone much less than I do.

This phone is a little complicated when it comes to simple things, lol, but yes, finally managed to import my contact list... even though... Nokia prefers to have their own ways to display my contact's names instead of the way I actually saved them (and what's with those /1 and /2 /3 next to my contacts...?)... But anyways other quick questions now that im here, lol:
1) From the Favorite Contacts widget, how to remove and replace contacts...? (I thought that long press and clicking on remove would do the trick but that removes the entire widget)
2) How come my AccuWeather widget stays stuck on Loading...? I tried connected on WiFi, or on my Rogers Internet, but still Loading. Everything else works fine online, I can connect to the internet no problem.
3) And... any good websites you guys can point out to download or purchase N97-compactible applications/games? I still need to experiment with xvid and divx codecs, and those SNES/Sega Genesis emulators

- Eldar thought the phone was already pretty heavy at 150g but everyone he asked said they'd want it to be even heavier
- The black model he has is still the prototype he had 6 months ago (orange backlight, no feature bar, dark brown in color, says N00)
- As was already mentioned, funky stylus design
- No more light leaks on the white one
- The menu key doubles as a breathing light.
- Eldar said it took him 2 days to get used to the space bar being on the right
- Reports that while the device has 128MB of RAM, about 70MB are free on boot ("That's enough to run a dozen applications, as well as view the ?heavy? web-pages, the staff is not aware of problems with it.")
- No active standby which we probably already knew
- Gushes about Facebook widget, says it's the best widget for the N97 and better than the desktop PC experience (Blaxx' note:

- Vibe alert not very strong
- Supports silencing calls, alarms, etc. by turning the phone over. (I miss my N95 for this feature)

No, you're still not getting the point. When that device comes out, it will be a N98/N99, or whatever. I'm talking about the device that Nokia's going to release in less than 6 months that fixes all of the problems that YOU early adopters complained about, not the next underwhelming flagship of 2010 when the same cycle will repeat again.
fyi..I just called my cc company..they said a charge was approved for the exact amount of my order and should post tomorrow..I'm skeptical, but that's what they said

Just got an email from Nokia. An order confirmation for my N97's. Checking the website, the phone is no longer backordered, but the bluetooth is also no longer In Progress. Could it be that they are getting ready to start shipping pre-orders?
If cellphones are starting to be "Mobile Computers"... Then shouldn't that mean we can try treating phones as computers now?? I mean... if OMAP4 is out there... what prevents somebody to open up the N97, take out that crappy little chip, and replcae it with OMAP4? Would do the same with RAM...
I'm sorry if this is a noob question, but I've never own a smartphone... is there no parts we can upgrade? Or is the software like, locked/restricted to its hardware?
