*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

After going to the official site for Symbian I came across some bits of info in regards to this new OS. Is this the new OS called Symbian Version9.5?

So far there is some promise in the graphics portion of Screenplay that I have seen a summary on, but only time will time once this new OS is released. I have to admit, this new OS does seem to grab my interest a bit more than the WebOS on the Palm Pre.

Do you think that the N97 will essentially be one of the first devices to usher in this new OS?

The more I think about this, I wonder if Nokia is silently waiting in the shadows to suddenly blow everyone else out of the water. Kind of exciting and possibly enough reason to reconsider the N97.

You'd think, but there will be plenty of people, probably a lot from here, that will buy that too. There has been no reason for Nokia NOT to use this tactic to make more money since people keep buying their devices anyway.

We never had a reason to complain about it before since they provided the best of the best in mobile technology for years. But now that we live in a world where you can't leave the house without seeing an iPhone and the competition is starting to eclipse them, we finally have a choice. People will figure it out eventually, but they'll need to invest much more of their money into Nokia before they start to see the "return".

I don't have Facebook, Twitter, MySpace or none of these bs networking sites (no offense to anyone, just my personal opinion) so nothing has changed, I still love this phone :) :) :)

Is It July Yet? :P

I really don't give a damn if its 5 or 8mp. What matters is the quality of the image. The biggest problem with cell phone cameras is optics quality and consistency, noise (low and high ISO), detail, and color accuracy.

i think apple and steve job are right now slapping every one at the development room and telling them to stop the production of any new iphone. hes gonna promise video and mms and maybe a 3mp camera lol

They've certainly addressed some of the concerns I have with S60v5. The side menu disappears on its own. To get it back up he was having trouble, but I guess its a start and some FW 6 months later will fix that.

Overall, its looking decent in the few things they decided to show.

But WTF about the stupid blank second home screen? Can't we put anything on it? Business stuff at least. Maybe multiple such screens?

Yes, with gaming and high-res unconverted video playback. As long as the rest of the experience is smooth, responsive, and hiccup-free, no other benefits exist.

Convergence? I'll wait for a true evolution from the S60 platform on that next device, or wait for UMPCs to get smaller, get cellular radios, and catch on as REAL smartphones with full-fledged no-nonsense operating systems. (In case you couldn't tell, I've been underwhelmed by every smartphone OS I've tried from Android to WinMo, iPhone and BB inclusive.)
