*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

i'd have to say changing a phone design when u come out with a new phone is the first step lol

battery is ssecond but i guess they fail both

No **** sherlock, but this is natively supported within contacts. If you've noticed in the E-series conversations application it puts a drop down box on top and those actually represent two different "address books" within contacts. So you can choose which opens by default. It may be a pedantic difference but it means that in future they can have multiple contact books and views. That is the significance of that distinction that escaped you.

Other significances since I seem to need to spell it out are that it explains why they needed different applications to perform the function on different series of devices. Why they needed so much time to implement it on E-series. Also again that it exposes a little known function of the E-series contacts application.

So stupid question, but I've been absent from s60 since I sold my n95-4, but either way, does this run the same s60 that the n95 ran or is it different in any way? I saw something about Ovi but I wasn't really sure what that was.

Sorry if it sounds like a n00b question, but I haven't been keeping up with s60 lately. :(

I am not sure if it was posted before but Amazon as of today is offering the Nokia N97 for $603.99 with free shipping. :clapping:

Here is the link for the Nokia N97 Black and here for the Nokia N97 White.

This is awesome deal, I personally do not think we will see much lower price than that, at least in a short term.

Yes there is at youtube. It's an unboxing video of the "display" N97 and you can buy one on eBay for about $15 shipped.

I think it's a good idea for folks who haven't seen the phone in person to order the dummy phone. It give you a good feel of how the phone fits in your hand and pockets before dishing out hundreds of dollars for the real deal. :buddies:

EDIT: Opps, didn't see that this was posted already.

(Honestly, not meaning to sound argumentative, but ... ... ...)

Garmin states on their site that:

So you have to use their microSD card.

On the N97 the microSD slot is, I believe I read, only accessible by removing the battery cover and fiddling around inside the phone. Hardly encouraging to the quick on-the-fly swapping of multiple cards.

So if you got the Garmin Mobile XT it would pretty well mean dedicating the microSD slot for the exclusive use of Garmin. (And in my case wasting the money I have already spent buying a microSDHC 16GB Class 4 card in preparation for the N97 I will soon by buying!)

It's really sad that Garmin can't work out a way to allow transferring everything from their card to the internal 32GB space. Couldn't they do something like requiring registration and locking it to your phone's IMEI?
.

You can buy off this phone in a physical store from June?? damn... lucky you... I'm in Montreal, and the people here will never have this kind of device on stock, all special orders, so basically will charge a price so high that it'll come to the same thing as ordering it online and paying shipping...

I'm sure that i'm going to make a complete fool of myself by asking this but here goes :)
Using ForumNokia's RDA tool to test drive the N97, how on earth do you unlock the "phone"?? Obviously the screen doesn't respond to anything, and pressing any of the "physical keys" just comes up with the "Use keyguard switch to unlock blah, blah, blah" But there is no effing keyguard switch!!!!
Please help me, I want to play :)

Hey $454 and I'd order it. You can always unload it. Same with this iPhone, I can always unload it and make at least $200 over what I paid.

haha, we still got a few months ahead to save up... (It's been a year since i've been telling myself that and still didn't start saving up, lol. When the phone actually comes, I'll be starving for a month, but i'll be happy)

I have been using s60 since 2001, my last s60 devices were an e75, e71, and an e66.
That is not true i had a lot of nice things to say about s60, back in 2005. But what has changed since then?

I could say they same, i have an omnia hd on order (not yet out in switzerland).

P.S Currently using a curve 8900, not an iphone.

If the phone supports DTM (dual-transfer mode), which most, if not all, Nokias do, then EDGE + voice is possible, but no US carrier supports it AFAIK.

Back to the topic at hand:
If anyone cares, I'm not buying an N97. Enjoy your lemon guys. Nokia has taken a crap all over their cell phones lately.

That'd be me. I've gotten the iPhone 3G 5 times now, and got rid of it because the lack of switching apps REALLY pisses me off. I'm sorry I'm not a drone and cannot do one thing only at time. I'd like to multi-task, but that's unfortunately NOT possible on iPhone (even after jailbreaking removes MOST of the limitations, this is something that's impossible).

The only thing holding this thing back from "Best device ever" is the resolution. I will take my soon-to-ships Xperia's 800*480 FTW. But other wise I am awe inspired. Good for Nokia! The first time I can remember that they ever fell behind; now they have caught up.

I am not a fan boy of any device, I love them all, in perticular SE, Nokia, and ther occasional HTC...

Personally I can't wait, and the Xperia is a postage stamp away so....... Not to mention the NAM question....

^for the calendar issue, maybe it's a press and hold vs tap that determines which behavior you get? perhaps sometimes the press is a slightly longer (long enough that it registers as a hold) and the other sub menu pops up? i dunno, just a stab in the dark. I've used other resistive touch phones that had similar functionality.

Exactly. There is a business model with all their devices even for their ?flagship? devices which usually does not mean having every single latest or most powerful thing. All these flagship devices are tradeoffs of some sort.

We all understand what more power or features could mean. But the constant badgering about how something does not have latest or most powerful compared to something else is just whining since that is not reality of any of these devices. Its up to you what combination and value you but into each feature and decide if that is the one for you.
