*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I have a quick question, does the N97 have a virtual keyboard as well? Just wondering since I find it convenient when trying to type with one hand. If not is there an app in the works?

Because I don't think Nokia retails the phone in Canada. The usual resellers that you know and love to shop (online and local) will have stock and allow you to buy from them.

@sr1329

^if there isn't kinetic scrolling in widgets i'll be one unhappy camper. if there is one thing I agree with you on is that those little touches/improvements to the OS need to be applied unilaterally throughout the OS. Thats a complete blunder if there isn't kinetic scrolling in every part of that phone.

SH:TTY SUPER MAD!!!

Man I could have made a business out of this and order a crap load and feed it off to the folks in Canada for about $600.

I might need to sell 10 to make $1000 but it sure beats the risk that I'm taking with the stock market.

That was exactly my point when I originally posted my hardware question a few weeks back... There must exist SOMEBODY that has the technical knowledge AND equipment to upgrade RAM/ROM on a phone. Just clone out the ROM image and recopy it into the upgraded compactible ROM you will get.

I lost hope on the processor upgrade, as there are far too many complications that exist, but RAM/ROM... sounds like a possibility.

Have you found another phone OS that has managed to meet your needs, or are you staying with your current Nokia device while not feeling the urge to buy any of the newer models?

I'm not going to worry about it. The N97 is the ultimate James Bond of internet phones and I got it at an excellent deal. So what if they come out with a capacitive screen? You will not be able to buy the N97 with a capacitive screen for the price that I got mine for. The N97 should be a decent phone for my needs to last me for the next 2 to 3 years until newer mobile/internet phone technology comes out. By that time, there will be more internet phones available in the marketplace and at much lower prices than what the N97 initally cost. That's the time when I will want to "upgrade" to another internet phone.

Why? Because they can release an all black N97 a few months down the line and make nokia fanboys cheer, jump for joy, and spend another $600 on that!

That's how the world goes round, after all..

They are shipping it, and to the US. Notice the US customer checkout at the bottom.

I just missed the price of $454 because of CC issues. Even if I go down to NYC/Chicago - I still wont be able to get anything better than $699.

Huge difference.

One other thing I noticed is they changed the home page scrolling between the widgets and the blank page. Remember how in that one video, scrolling to the right had the fancy transition and scrolling to the left just did an instantaneous transition? Now you have the transition no matter which direction you scroll.

Wish they'd take this further and let you have more than 2 pages.

So how come cellphones don't use Intel processors? :P (slap on a good old i7 in there, and don't come tell me the processor itself will cost the same as the phone, you smartasses, lol)
