And who's to say that the aforementioned Samsung device is coming out anytime soon? Too much emphasis on cameras and megapixel counts here, any device I'm thinking about using is a phone or SMS device first then we'll worry about the extras. If my E71 didn't have a camera at all, I wouldn't mind (prefer it actually)
 
I suspect as much. Someone did an analysis based on the size of the chip in the pic and it can't be the 12mm that the OMAP 3430 is.

I guess Nokia has settled on hardware backwardness for this "flagship".

Why are they so cheap?

This time if the software is not PERFECT, then the market will have far better hardware to offer you for your hard earned $$$.

To pay $700 for a cheap freescale POS that the $250 E55 will have, when $700 can buy you an OMAP 3430 carrying OmniaHD or Pre means that the software better be worth $300.

I have my doubts. Seriously.


They better put server search in the new Nokia messaging. Also it might be time for copy and paste from the browser with number recognition. Because I know the competition is bringing it.

It's okay to be late with features if those features are going to be functional and properly implemented. It's better than getting shiity betas that last for 2-3 years (see Nokia conversations). It's especially excusable when you just entered the phone business 2 years ago. The smartphone business no less.


Some Nokia software I wouldn't wish on my enemies. So I wonder how they are going to justify this.

Better just price it for what it is worth: $550. Sounds right for 3 years old hardware tech with Nokia (half finished) software. NAM customers will need to beg for FW updates.

Oh well, maybe the N98 will allow them to release something deserving of the "flagship" title.

I am sure that was temporary, I spent a couple of hours when I couldn't sleep the other night watching "Just for Laughs" episodes on youtube in full screen after I installed the Flash Lite 3.1 upgrade.
 
there are gonna be lots of times when you are web surfing and dont wanna open up the qwerty. thank GOD that they left in t9 with slider closed.
 
I am pretty sure if they took my beloved E51 and the 5800 and did stress tests the 5800 would last longer. Even though it is plastic is has a decent weight and it doesn't feel
fragile at all.

Probably because BOTH apps currently share the same SQL Server db for the apps and the connections are currently the same as Ovi Store is still internal Alpha/Beta. When it launches it'll go its own route for sure. Also Nokia stated that Download! will not immediately die off. but a slow gradual death. Recall Ovi Store is globally going to launch in only 8markets initially.
 
Even Eldar's preview from months ago (around MWC) said browsing was superior to 5800 and that the menus were snappy and near ready for production. Lester's preview certainly looks like it's about ready for primetime (at least as ready as it's going to get).

I think the main thing we've been waiting on is widgets and the finishing software details (the camera AF still puzzles me since it's supposedly the exact same unit as N85, but maybe they figured it was easy and they'd do that last?)
 
Thank you. And I was saying that it will kill most f the other N/E series because of the 550 Euro price tag (as was said in your link), which is extremely reasonable.

I don't remember being this excited about a device since the N95 was announced.

For someone who doesn't like the N97 you sure spend a lot of time here...

Theres a ton os reasons to get an N series phone. Last year instead of the Pre you would have said Andriod...

The Pre at this time is all myth. Until it's released and in general availability it's as good as you want it to be, just like the Andriod G-1 was. OSs take a long time to mature. If the new "WebOS" is anything more than a thin veneer on palm os it will have some growing to do. The question with Palm is, can the company survive till then, or did that call is Pre because it's Pre-Bankrupcy.

So let's look at your list:

iPhone: crap camera and $~1000/year ATT plan, can't swap out the battery and you HAVE to use itunes.

OmniaHD: can't get it so who knows how well it will work. Does it reboot on the letter 'j' like the insight?

i7500: Maybe this one will last more than 4 hours on batt? more vapor.

Nokia certainly does have a huge strength in the US market. They sell and support unlocked US handset. Before you whine to me about EU handsets getting more firmware keep in mind not all EU product codes get them very quickly either. It's been 3 weeks since the v21 5800 fw and not even all of EU has it.
 
You can see it in the NYC Nokia Flagship store during the S60 User Meeting - happens once a month. Chanse Arlington, Nokia Manager brings the phone to the meeting and let us play with it. :clapping:

I think they're starting to have S60/Nokia user gatherings in Chicago's Flagship store too.
